Camera RAw Lab WB eyedropper?

Post by GlenBarrington »

I'm curious about CRL, and have been trying to figure out exactly how good or how bad the raw capabilities of PSP X6 just are. But one control has me stumped. it isn't even mentioned in the help files - that darned White balance eyedropper! What does it DO?

I've experimented quite a bit with it, and it seems that it is trying to balance the color of a pixel selected with it with the other colors. For instance, if I select a pixel that is sort of lavender in color, it shifts the rest of the photo to a more yellow cast. The color temperature goes from somewhere in the 4,000's to somewhere in the 6000's. It is changing the white balance based on the color of that pixel, The color of that lavender pixel remains the same, but everything around it shifts and not in a pleasing way. What is the expected goal of this shift? Why do I want to have it available?

Any insight anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

I believe you're supposed to choose either black, grey, or white pixels. Areas of the photo that you know are supposed to be one of those colors. Not familiar with the Camera Raw Lab myself, but the white balance command in the Adjust menu tells you to select a grey, white, or black reference point and white balance attempts to adjust the photo to match.
