I have video studio X6. I am never sure which option is best to make the clearest video. I only play my videos on computer not dvd. I started choosing HDV - 720p-30p (for pc) which the videos look great but if I make changes to the file and go to save it again it will not let me. I am wondering which option is best to choose or if you can direct me to instructions that will teach me more about these different options. I have looked this up in the past, but have never found an explanation of each option.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What changes are you making? What do you mean by "go to save it again it will not let me"? Do you get an error message or what? Are you just trying to save the project again or are you trying to create another video file (re-render)?

Re: Which option to choose when creating a video file
Hi
Video files contain a number of attributes/properties.
Frame size, frame rate and interlacing to mention a few. Retaining the original properties of your video file is usually the best options in retaining quality.
So can you tell us what type of video files you are using.?
You will be best to right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?
You can create an image of that window and attach to your post (attachment options at bottom of your post)
The Share options allows you to select Same as First Clip, that may be a good starting point. The HDV for PC as you have found produces good video but again it does depend on your original properties.

Re: Which option to choose when creating a video file
Coincidentally, we have just had another post today where someone is converting video to HDV customised format, and I have commented on that: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 97#p286297 However, in this current case, those comments may or may not be relevant, depending on what your original video format is. So I can only suggest you follow lata's request for the Properties.

Re: Which option to choose when creating a video file
I have attached the properties for the types of files I use. I either use screen captures or videos from my video camera. I make cuts on the videos and then need to save them and combine them to make the video.

Re: Which option to choose when creating a video file
Hi Danielle
The private message was not necessary, you were not being ignored, I would have replied, just a little busy, Thursday pm is our keep fit day.
You say you have attached your properties yet there is no attachments on your posts.
To the bottom of your post as you compile it there is an “Upload Attachment” tab.
Here you can browse for the image you created of the properties window.
Then you click Add File, this uploads the file to the forum server.
Now you Place in Line, your image will be placed on your post at the curser position.
Ok
When you choose Share Create Video File there are several options.
Some are relating in creating a video to burn to disc others for internet or PC playback.
The WMV (Windows Media Video )
HDV for TV
and Mpeg4 may be your best options for playback on tv.
There is also Upload to Web which will use one of the programs default mpeg4 template, after rendering simply cancel the upload window.
Again what you choose depends on your original video properties.
You mention Screen Capture those video clips may cause a bit of problems as the frame sizes and rates may be non-standard.
Then you are using a Camcorder, please tell us some details, what type and make?
-----------------------------
Typically Mpeg4 properties would look like this:-
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 5000 Kbps
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps
1280 x 720 is the frames size in pixels, you could use 1920 x 1080, both are 16:9 widescreen
Frame Based (aka progressive) is used for PC and internet playback
H264 is the type of compression used to compile the video clip.
5000Kbps is the amount of data that is used to compile the video, generally the higher the number the higher the quality and file size.
48000Hz are the audio properties.
Danielle, do some rendering tests.
Using a short video file, insert to the timeline, then Share Create Video File.
If Same as First Video File is available then try that, it will use the properties of the original video file.
Try the options I listed above WMV, HDV, Mpeg4.
Compare the quality, also take note of the render times.
