Plugins will not load

Post by PeterPawn »

I am new to Paint Shop Pro x6 but not new to creating digital images. I've had an account at deviantART for about 6 years and I'm pretty computer literate.
I like PSP very much but have a very perplexing issue.
The plugins will not load when I use the program and it is grayed out.

I've been reading through the FAQ's and have not found a solution for my specific problem.

The problem persists with the 32 or 64 bit system. I've been using the plugin file location setting to make sure that the program is looking at the right folder for the plugins. I've done this about a dozen times, even tried different locations for the plugin file but the program will not load the plugins.
(file/preferences/file locations/plugins)

I have not tried any patches because the patches I've read about in FAQ don't seem to address my issue.

When I installed PSP initially it immediately automatically updated itself. I assume this is the only update that it needs.

I tried to install SP2 but it failed. Not sure if x6 needs this service pack.

Also, when I run the Belarc Advisor it produces gibberish, lines and lines and lines of computer code and I don't think I'm supposed to get that kind of result. I've put in all the info about my system that I can with no help from the Advisor program.

So can someone tell me what I'm missing?
I'm really liking this program and I would really like to get the plugins working.

If you are experiencing this problem using the 32-bit version of X6, it could be a Data Execution Prevention issue.
You need to include PSP in the list to stop some plugins being rejected:

Start>Control Panel>System Protection>
Advanced>Settings>Data Execution Prevention
Then navigate to the ProgramFiles (x86) >Corel>PSPX6 (32-bit)>Corel>Corel PSPX6>Corel PaintShop Pro.exe and click on the file to add it to the list.

More information please. What version of PSP X6 are you trying to update. The fully updated version with SP2 is 16.2.0.20. (Help > About )
Is your X6 a disc version or download version?

Now which plug ins are you trying to use? Most of the plug ins out there are only able to work with 32 bit version of X6. Do you have other versions of PSP and did those plugins work with them?

Is the rest of the program working without the plug ins. ie brushes adjustments and other features.

I don't have win 8 so cannot even try and test for your problem. Perhaps others with Win 8 / 8.1 can check if the same plug ns work with their systems once you have provided the information.

Just checked and Belarc Advisor is supposed to have a version that works with win 8. Perhaps redownload and install the latest version again.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

FWIW I just installed version 8.4 of Belarc from http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html (I had forgotten to install it when I set up this computer with Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit.) And it works fine.

My thanks to Ken Berry. I re-downloaded Belarc Advisor from your link, installed it again and got the same result.
Here's a small sample.....

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 Draft//EN">
<html>
<head>
<title>Belarc Advisor Computer Profile</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#ffffff" link="#005399" vlink="#005399">
<a name="top"></a>
<center>

<table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td valign="bottom" align="center"><a href="http://www.belarc.com/ba5.html?B"><img src="file:///C:/Program Files (x86)/Belarc/BelarcAdvisor/System/local/images/Advisor.gif" align="bottom" alt="Belarc Advisor"
border="0" vspace="0" hspace="0"></a><br/>
</td>
</tr>

It's page after page after page of this. It's very long. Beats me.

HALLELUJAH!!!
It worked. Plugins now load when I use the 32 bit version but not the 64 bit version. So I guess I'll be using the 32. Don't what difference that makes but as long as I can use the plugins with the 32 bit then I'm a happy camper.
I'm already liking this forum
Thanks a bunch. I really appreciate the help.

Hehe, a happy camper is better than an unhappy one :-)
I uninstalled the 62-bit version, as I want to use my plugins as before.
In my opinion the 64-bit 'advantage' doesn't deliver if I can't use (32-bit) plugins I have used for years.

Glad it's working.
