Smartsound greyed out

Post by Peem »

Hi,

In looking for a solution to my problem I came across this posting but it seems to apply to VS5 and in any case did not really seem to produce a solution.

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... es#p282291
I think I have the same problem, in upgrading to windows 8.1 the smart sound window now appears greyed out but I can locate all my smart sound files under C> smart sound software> quick tracks> library. .The problem is getting VS X6 to find them. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program but it did not seem to even think about smart sound. Any suggestions please.
Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter

I think your answer was in Rons final post
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... es#p282795

It does appear that Corel are fully aware of the problems with Smart Sound and Windows 8
I can only suggest you ask the question on Corel Facebook, I suppose they may listen if they are pestered enough.

I don’t use W8 so cannot run any tests.

Sorry you are having problems and disappointed in Corels response to this issue.

FWIW I don't have any problem with SmartSound with either X6 or X7 on a Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit computer. In fact I just tested it in a recently reinstalled version of X7 64 bit and it immediately went into installing the two SmartSound discs which come with VS (Core Foundations and New Standard). And I then opened X6 and again had no problems with SmartSound. So if there was indeed a problem with Win 8, it appears to have been resolved -- at least for me in Win 8.1...

Ken & Trevor,
I can't say for sure that it disappeared with the supposed upgrade to 8.1 but I am pretty sure I used smart sound when running on windows 8. I haven't used VS for a while and the option certainly wasn't there when I went to use it recently. As I say all the files are sitting on my C drive [although I think I recall Corel offering me some additional tunes while ago and I don't think they were there]. It would be nice if you could tell the program to link to the files somehow. After reading the comments on the forum about running 32 bit and 64-bit and the inability of some of the add-ons to run on 64-bit I don't know that there is much incentive to upgrade to X7 yet. I didn't install the bonus disc when I reinstalled X6 but it didn't ask me to either. So I might see if I can give that a try before pursuing any other tactics.
Thanks both for your comments, Peter.

Smartsound was greyed out with VS 5-6 when I switched from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Non of the suggested fixes worked. I upgraded to VS 7 and Smartsound now works with Windows 8.1.

Hi Peter

In a way I suppose you can re-link to the smart sound files by Rebuilding the Data Base.

Open the Auto Music panel
Choose Smartsound Quicktracks, the panel you see allows you to view the installed Albums and Folders.
Under the Albums tab all entries should be ticked, I see 4 options

Core Foundations & New Standards were provided with the program.
I have another Ethereal Dreams, bought by us.
Then a Online Purchase,

The Folder tab should list the folders being used by the program, I see one option
C:\ProgramData\SmartSound Software Inc
But you are able to add other folders.

The About Tab has the option to rebuild Smart Sound Data base.

Have you explored these options?

Trevor,
I am afraid everything in my Automusic panel is greyed out. I can't even uncheck the autotrim box, although as I mouse over the various functions the little explanation panel for each does appear. So clicking on smart sound quick tracks doesn't do anything. Back to the drawing board. I have re-installed the bonus disc but, watching as it loaded, it seemed to only cover things like Prodad, Boris etc, and certainly did not result in a functioning Automusic panel.

I might also mention I tried to update my profile on this forum to include my newest computer but couldn't find a way to edit my profile. I am sure all program designers delight in finding methods to remind us that they are smarter than the user!

Rkartzinel, it looks as though I may have to resort to an upgrade, although I think that will have to wait until the middle of the month as we have already exceeded our pathetic download capacity this month. We live only about 70 km from the capital city of our state that that is the best that's available here.

Thanks to all who replied. I think this might be on hold until I can download X7.
Regards, Peter

Hi Peter

When you re-installed Video Studio did you also re-install Smart Sound.
And I assume you also have QuickTime installed on your pc. This may not be installed with Video Studio.

Ok try this…..

First go here to run Quicktracks installer5 again
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Setup Files\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Setup Files\Setup\RunTime\Quicktracks5Installer—setup.exe

If that does not improve things…………

Uninstall Video Studio.
Uninstall SmartSoundQuick Tracks 5
Uninstall SmartSound Quicktracks Plugin
Uninstall SmartSound Common Data

Re-install Video Studio.

The bonus content does not include SmartSound that is installed by Video Studio.

Problem solved!

Trevor,
I am sorry I missed your last post. My email notification of replies seems to have unset itself. The solution turned out to be quite simple and I kicked myself for not having tried it earlier. Rather than trying to add Smartsound to a virgin project I opened an old project that had Smartsound as part of it and I am guessing that this help Videostudio find the smart sound files on my computer. When I reopened the new project Smartsound was available and worked like a charm.

I wasn't too keen on rushing to acquire VSX7 and having to choose whether to install 64 or 32 bit, but that decision is now delayed a bit longer.

Thanks to all who contributed advice.

Hi Peter

Thanks for the feedback and glad you have managed to get Smartsound working.

Forum post notifications have been a problem for some time for all users, Corel finally fixed a few days ago, so you should have no problems and should receive a notification for this post.
