Hi

The second download link you provided has not been used so is available for download, the download link will be deleted 2 hours after the first download.

I use One Drive from Microsoft (https://onedrive.live.com)

I have uploaded your sample (28Mb), I am not sure if you need to log-in to download, but try anyway?

Ghijohansson sample

and like Brian says check your graphics driver for updates, it does seem strange that new systems should require this, but it is worth checking.

Most here are running Windows 7 so you may have to wait for Ken who I know has W8, he may be able to test your sample.

Yes, I checked for new driver to the graphics card before I downloaded Videostudio.

And 5 minutes ago I wrote to Canon.

I guess I should test a few other video formats. To see if that gives some clue. The test files included by corel appear to give no problem.

I have now downloaded the second sample (and think it will still be available for others for another 40 minutes...

But it opens fine in my VS X7 64 bit running on a Win 8.1 64 bit machine. The properties are the same as given above, though in this case the max bitrate is shown as 22699 kbps. Note that I have not done anything special to this machine, and don't have any codec packs loaded. When I first inserted the clip I received, as expected, the message asking if I wanted to match Project Properties to those of the clip.

As already advised, double check your Intel HD graphics driver again : Video Studio has some known problems with version 10.18.10.3412. You can roll back to version 10.18.10.3379 or, still better, you may download and install the very recent 10.18.10.3496 version from Intel's web site. This worked for me and my config and issues where identical to yours. Good luck !

OK, I understand, check the graphics card. My laptop has NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M, with 1 Gigabyte graphics memory.

I downloaded a number of videofiles. Videostudio can handle both mpg, wmv, mp4 and webm. And in capture, it can play my .mts files, but still, when I import it crashes.

One other thing you might try. Your camcorder probably came with a disc which will contain the manufacturer's software for downloading the video from the camera to the computer, and probably also to do some simple editing. If you haven't installed it, I would do so, then use it to import your video from the camera to the computer. This will normally change the original .mts extension to .m2ts. That might help you open your files as I suspect it also changes some tags attached to the video... But it does seem strange that we here seem to have no trouble opening your .mts files...

Canon answered that I should contact the software company which created the enclosed software. So I have written a new letter to Canon, asking for the e-mail address to that software company.

Two programs were enclosed, but for Windows 7, not for Windows 8.1. So, in brief, only one of the two programc was installed. Only the transfer program was installed, not the one which can transcode from .mts to .m2ts.

What are the programs that were enclosed? I recently bought a Canon DSLR camera and also received several programs. Perhaps they are the same?

I think there was a little misunderstanding : I never suggested to check your graphics card but your graphics driver(s). Many computers (especially laptops) with an Intel CPU are using both the integrated graphics of the CPU AND the on board graphics card (usually nvidia). They are not using both at the same time but the operating system selects the Intel integrated graphics when the application is not particularly demanding and the nvidia graphics when it is more demanding. The reason therefore is to use less energy for less demanding applications and to optimize the battery management. This is called "Optimus" controlling.
If you are really sure your system is configured to never use the integrated Intel graphics or if you use an i7 Intel CPU without integrated graphics at all then it's OK, my solution will not work. But it did work at least for another user with both integrated Intel graphics and a separate nvidia card although he thought he was only using his nvidia graphics card.
I am only trying to help, so if you still think this suggestion doesn't apply to your issue or is not worth considering I surely will not feel offended.

The program I can't use is Videobrowser. Canon gave me a link to the software company Pixela. I have written a new letter to Canon because the link they gave me only sent me to a telephone number, while I need an e-mail address to Pixela.

The problem is that I need a serial number to use Videobrowser, and it failed when I entered the serial number for the camcorder. Videobrowser is a trivial video editing program, which can also change the files from .mts to .m2ts.

Thanks for reminding me about that my laptop probably uses the integrated graphics, not only the graphics card. This I had not earlier realized.

OK. Did you check you have the very latest drivers installed for both graphics cards :
- INTEL : 10.18.10.3496
- NVIDIA : 335.23
Several users, including me, experienced exactly the same problem of VideoStudio X7 crashing when trying to open .mts files. We all could import .mts files without any problems just by updating the graphics drivers to the above mentionned versions.
Why don't you give it a try ? It's quick and easy.

I will try to update the drivers as soon as possible. But yesterday and today I have been busy. And on every Thursday it is instead my friend the computer genius who is busy. But I e-mailed him yesterday and asked him if he can visit me on Friday evening.

According to Fujitsu, my laptop has graphics driver 9.17.10.2843, which is probably very old. The laptop was sold for a very low price, so I was not surprised to discover that it must be at least one year old, even though I clearly is the first owner. I mean, the laptop must have spent a lot of time at the retailer.

When it comes to NVIDIA, I am not sure what driver I have but I will forward your information to my friend the computer genius. So thanks a lot.

Hi ghijohansson

I had problems with a Lenovo laptop some time ago, a Windows Update, I think from the Optional Updates listed the graphics driver as being required, that cured my problems.
http://lata.me.uk/corel/lenovo/lenovo.htm

So maybe visit Microsoft Windows Updates, link in your Control Panel.

Many thanks all of you. Problem solved.

My friend the computer genius visited me. My graphics driver was 10.18.10.3412. We changed it to 10.18.10.3496. Now Videostudio works.

Yes, we also changed the NVIDIA driver.

So my problem exemplifies 2 things :

- One must have the right drivers.

- The quality of a video editing program depends on the quality of the user forum.

Again, many thanks all of you.
