Vector - delete segment ?

Post by ausair »

Hi

I have created a straight line vector path.

I then used the knife tool to make two cuts along the length of the path.

How do you select the segment of the path between the cuts and delete that section ?

I actually have three ways to do this, not necessarily the best ways but they are the three ways that I'm familiar with.

These are all a little odd.

Hold the Ctrl key and hover over the center of the segment you want to delete. The cursor should change to show "+ADD" click once to add a node to the center of the segment. If you double-click this node while in edit mode you should see a selection box encompass the entire segment. Then just hit Delete.

---

The other way to handle it is to delete the individual nodes using a keyboard trick.

Select the first node then press SHIFT + ]. This will select the next node in the line. Press SHIFT + ] one more time to select the first node in the segment you want to delete and then hit the Delete key.

Then select the last node on the line and hit SHIFT + [ to move backwards on the line. Press it again to select the last node in the segment you want to delete and hit the Delete key.

I don't like this method because since cutting the line causes two nodes to overlap it's hard to tell exactly which one you have selected without counting or trial an error.

---

Last method

Use the cut tool to create a third cut. Then use the edit mode to do a box select around the center nodes. Hit Delete. Then use the box select around the node group on the left. Right-click on them and select "Join". And do the same to the right group.

Ahh, that's how you do it !
thanks.

By far the easiest method was the first your suggested.
Much appreciated, now I'm off and running again with PSP.

I learned a fourth way. :D And I honestly feel silly for having never known this.

The fourth method is to hold the SHIFT key while holding your cursor over the line in the segment. The cursor will change to say "SUB" click and drag the segment away. Once the segment is separated from everything else you can double click one of the nodes in the segment and hit Delete.

It's similar in ease and number of steps to the first option. Just nice to know how to move individual segments and contours without moving everything.
