VS7 Smart Render not working?

Post by aussiejoe »

Hi

Ive been experimenting with smart render and Im not sure if its me or the program that is at fault.
My understanding is that with Smart Rendering selected, previously rendered clips should be "ignored" by VS7 if used in a subsequent project.

To test this:

I render a clip that takes 30 seconds to render (clip A).
I start a new project and import this previously rendered clip A in addition to 3 unrendered photos (which I already know take 20 seconds to render from testing previously)
In theory it should only take 20 seconds or so to render the this new project consisting of clip A and the 3 photos, is this correct?
If so, then there is something wrong because its taking 50 seconds or so to render the project. I assume VS7 is re-rendering all the content again
any thoughts?
cheers

Is the new output format the same format exactly that clip A was rendered to? SmartRender requires that this be the case...

Nope,

Just a straight m2ts clip sourced from my sony camera rendered that to MPEG4 (no effects)
then added this MPEG4 clip to 3 jpegs and rendered all these to one MPEG 4 clip (no effects)

Ok just worked out what I was doing wrong...

The program does not recognise the output file as having been rendered (in my case - mpeg4 files) it just recognises that the original .VSP file has been rendered.

In other words, if I create a project and render say 1 m2ts file then save the project as file name xyz.VSP, open it back up and add 2 photos to the original xyz.VSP project, VS7 will then only render the 2 photos that were subsequently added to the project.

Just have to rethink how I will create and add to my projects in future
