Hi all,
Having uninstalled VS7 64 bit and now installed and running the 32 bit version on my system I have noted the following:
the 32bit version installs in the "program files (x86)" folder so any previously 64 bit projects that used styles/objects etc (from the 64 bit "program files" folder) need to be relinked which can be tedious
Im having issues with file extension associations. Windows 7 wont allow the extension .vsp to be associated with the vstudio.exe file in the (x86) location. This has been reported on the web for other programs as an issue. Inconvienient not critical.
Render times appear to be a little quicker under 32bit but not by a lot. A 2 minute project took 8 minutes under 64 bit and 7.5 minutes under 32 bit.
The biggest positive that I have noted using 32 bit is the smaller file size of the rendered output. Im rendering to MPEG-4 Files 24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps. An 8 minute project rendered to 600MB under 64Bit and the same file was 478MB under 32 bit rendering. About 20% smaller file size. This will make a big difference to me as I will have 30 minute plus projects to come.
Lastly, I temperature monitor during rendering for the CPU/GPU and have found that under 32 bit temperatures for the CPU are slightly lower and the GPU slightly higher.
Im planning to stay on 32 bit from now on
cheers
