Hello Corel Community,
New to Corel and video editing, hoping you could help me out.
I'm working on recording some gameplay of Fallout New Vegas. I record in 1080p set at 60fps. I'm using Mirrilis Action to record. I'll record in an .avi file. I load the file to VideoStudio library, and then drag it to the timeline. Now when I play it as "clip" it seems fine, plays nice and smooth, but when I play it as "project" the video seems to shutter, almost as if I was dropping frames. Now the audio still sounds fine at this point, still playing in project. I go back and play as "clip" and everything plays smoothly. When I record, I monitor my FPS, and I do get around 60 almost the whole recording, some frame drops down to about 30fps for quick seconds. This I'm assuming due to the size of the game, graphics are set fairly high, and running some mods. When I play everything is smooth and playable, no major shutter like I see when playing it back in "project". I've tried to record in 720p, and in .mp4 format. I've also tried to record with split video and audio files. Is this just due to the performance of my computer (list below)? Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will be happy to answer any question to the best of my ability. Thank you for your time.

Re: VideoStudio X4 Shutter.
There is nothing wrong with your computer. It is, rather, X4 -- and its inability to deal with 60 fps video properly, if at all.
I am, however, a little confused by the various times you use the word 'record'. In some cases, it seems your are using it in the sense of rendering the original video to a new format. But I am not sure since you could also mean you first recorded the video on Mirrilis Action (whatever that is!) in one format, and when that didn't work in X4, you recorded it again on Mirrilis but in another format.
So could you please clarify what was the original format -- take one of your original clips in the X4 timeline or library window and right click it. Then copy ALL its Properties here, please, or take a screen grab of the Properties box and upload it here as an attachment.
It would be useful also if you could explain a bit further whether the other formats you mention are simply output from the original in new formats, or re-recordings.
The problem is that when X4 was first produced, fully progressive video at 60 full frames per second was only just appearing on the market. It was first mainly 720p using 60 fps but is now also 1080p and 4K... But the other problem is probably the fact that the bitrate being used in your original video may also be too high for X4 to handle. At the time X4 came out, the maximum bitrate for AVCHD video (which I am assuming your video is) was 18 Mbps. Now it is at least 27 Mbps and can be higher (I have just finished an mpeg-4 project using 29 Mbps from my GoPro Hero footage -- but I'm using VS X7.)
In other words, I suspect X4 is dropping half the frames from your 60p making it 30p but in effect giving it the appearance of jerkiness. But also probably trying to reduce the bitrate on the fly to something it can handle...
One thing you could try -- though I suspect it won't help much -- is to use SmartProxy in X4. This creates a standard definition copy ('proxy') of your original video which is easier to edit and plays smoothly. You apply your edits, and then when satisfied, the edits are applied back to the original. But the proxy files take some time to create so be patient.

Ken, by record I think he means screen capture recording, I believe Fallout Las Vegas is a video game.

Re: VideoStudio X4 Shutter.
Thanks. But it still doesn't answer my question about what he means by his several references to 'record' nor the various formats he is trying -- or rather, when he is trying them -- during the actual 'record' or in the rendering of the recorded, and edited, videos...

I may be good, but I'm not God, so the OP will need to answer those questions

Re: VideoStudio X4 Shutter.
When I use "record" I'm saying it as I am recording the file on Mirillis, recording the gameplay. When that didn't work I went back and started over, but re-recorded in a different format. First time was .avi, second time was .mp4. Skier-hughes you are correct, I"m using Mirrilis as a screen capture to record the game while I play. I will attach a screen shot of the file properties. I'm going to try using SmartProxy, see if it improves at all. Thanks you Ken and Skier-hughes for the replies.

Re: VideoStudio X4 Shutter.
The FICV codec, one I hadn't heard of before, appears to be Mirrilis' own codec.
The net appears to be full of people trying to do what you want to do with all manner of editing apps, with limited success.
You may find converting the file to a more standard file might give you success.
FYI - avi is a wrapper and can contain well over 800 different file types, so when choosing your file conversion type, choose carefully!
