Hi
The easiest way may be from your camera menu.
Otherwise connect sd card to pc via a card reader, use windows explorer to format card.
Formatting the card will delete all data on card.

Re: Need to format SD card before use
No!! Formatting the card in a PC will not set up the required folders on the card. It is critical to format the card in the camera to set up certain folders used, not only for recording video and stills, but for housekeeping.lata wrote:Hi

If you format in your PC you will just wipe the card.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

If you are talking about the card in your camcorder you need to insert it and find "format card" or similar in the cams menu and follow the instructions there

Re: Need to format SD card before use
Hi Terfyn
When I format my SD card on the pc all data is removed, the card is like new.
When I place that SD card in my camera, turn the camera on, before taking any recordings, the camera creates files on that card.
DCIM
MISC
PRIVATE
Those folders being used to save the video / images.
It is not essential to format on camera, although that is my preferred method.

Re: Need to format SD card before use
Maybe they have changed the software because when I carried out the same process the card failed and I had to re-format it in the camera. That is why I always recommend that the card is formatted inside the camera and not in a PC.lata wrote:Hi Terfyn
