PSP X6 destroys JPG files
I just turned a jpg file in the full view mode 90 degrees counterclockwise. The result was a abstract looking bunch of lines in all collors. Because I thought that it is only an effect on the monitor I closed PSP WITHOUT saving but the destroyed JPG was written to disk! What kind of *!*!* is that? After using several versions of PSP in the last 20 years I start to understand why the bigger rest of the world uses Photoshop!

Re: PSP X6 destroys JPG files
Actually, that has never happened (that PSP saves automatically when closing the program) but it wouldn't change much as in PSP I always work on a copy and leave the original alone. But, to be fair, a large recent poll suggest that only about 19% of the world of photographers (maybe more graphic artists) use PS. Considering how expensive it is, the you can only rent it, and what bloatware it is, I'm frankly surprised it is that many. However, unless it was a really critical photo, I suppose it is a good lesson.... never work on the original.... I messed up a photo without making a copy and that changed my behavior.
Adverts for Corel products when you close PSP don't bother me.

I tried to reproduce what you describe, viewing a file in full screen mode and then trying to close PSP. I couldn't do it. Whatever I did I was asked if I wanted to save the file. Could not get close PSP without first leaving full screen mode. Trying to close PSP always produced a prompt to save.dieter59 wrote:I just turned a jpg file in the full view mode 90 degrees counterclockwise. Double clicking on a thumbnail in Manage mode will open up the file in full screen preview. Clicking on rotate there rotates and saves the change, just like clicking on rotate on the thumbnail palette.
Check with another program -Windows viewer/explorer or so- if the file is viewable there. It may just be the thumbnail that is corrupt.

Re: PSP X6 destroys JPG files
If the JPG itself is corrupted, you can try and see if Windows has saved a backup copy of it. Or if Corel has.
If Corel has saved a backup copy you need to turn on show hidden files and folders to find it. It would be in a hidden folder called Corel Auto-Preserve inside the same folder where your image is located.
If Windows has saved a copy you can right-click on the file, select Properties, then in the properties dialog there is an option for "Previous Versions" it will try and find a backup copy of your file. I actually need to learn more about this feature. I know that if it's not turned on it won't work, and it won't necessarily keep track of every file. But worth a shot.

Thank you all for your answers!
I didn't complain because I've no backup. I've more than one copy of all of my photos
I complained because PSP saved the rotated jpg *without* asking me and the result was a corrupt jpg, not the thumbnail but the jpg itself. I ask myself wether it's only happening to me or if there is anybody else who has experienced the same effect.
@pdxrjt: I agree, that the way of selling PS as a cloud service is definetly not the right way - at least for me! And for sure it is not free of bugs
