Advantage in upgrading

Post by MikeyChris »

Hello All,
I am new to this board, and using a very old version of PSP - JASC Ver 7.04. However, I only do very simple tasks like cropping & manipulating photos to list on eBay, or perhaps cleaning up a drawing or even a document that was saved as a JPEG file.

I am confused by the Corel vesion numbers as the current version appears to be ver 6, with ver 7 in the works. Did Corel not take over where JASC left off? if so, what's up with the version numbers?

Could someone just tell me if there is some significant benefit I would get from upgrading to the current version.

Thanx for your help. :D

Corel's numbering system is a bit precious, but they have been using it with all their main products for quite a few years now. You will notice that in fact the numbers are preceded by a capital X. That in fact is the Roman number 10. So instead of saying the current version is 16 and the next version will be 17, they say X6 and X7 instead!

Any benefit you might get is up to you. I mean cropping and general enhancements have not changed too dramatically (though some have changed) since version 7. And all of those can be done with free software like Paint.NET and GIMP. And many others, including web based photo editors.

So any benefit you'd get from upgrading to version 16 (X6) would depend on features and functions you currently use and would like to start using. I mean, they've added, changed, removed, and hidden many things since version 7. Can't tell you if it'll be good for you or not. Best option, download the trial and test it out.

Thank you Ken & LeviFiction. It's all so clear now! I noticed the "X" but did not realize its meaning.
