VS pro X7 crashes when opening MTS
Hi, just happily installed VS pro X7 (64 bit), all seemed to work fine.
When trying to open an MTS video file (AVCHD, 1920x1080, 17406 kBit/s) VS immediately crases and gives the error: "Corel VideoStudio doesn't work anymore, Debug or Close Programm". I can open MP4 or JPG files and drag them onto the timeline without problems.
PC is new and I can view MTS videos without problems when using VLC media player or other apps.
What I already tried:
- removed and re-installed the programm
- reset the settings by removing the 17.0 folder in the user app data settings
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Floris

I don't really have an answer at the moment - except that my videos which are .mts files have almost identical properties to yours and I can import and edit them with no problems at all.
lets see if someone knows why it doesn't work for you

Re: VS pro X7 crashes when opening MTS
Try other small MTS files to check that all of them fail; I can place MTS files on the timeline just fine. If all your MTS files fail, please post the source of your MTS files (camera?) and use a program like "Mediainfo" (a free program) to post all the details of the failing MTS files.

Thank you for trying to help!
Problem exists with all MTS files, small ones (18 Mb) till larger ones (100+). Camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200. Strange thing is that after the first installation I was able to add 4 files. Then after closing the programme the problem started and it never worked again...

Re: VS pro X7 crashes when opening MTS
I notice that your audio uses the Big Endian codec. I recall other users posting problems associated with that -- though IIRC their problems were not that the video wouldn't load, but with the audio refusing to play.
Did your Lumix come with an installation disk of some kind? It could be that this will install the necessary audio codec which could be your problem.
It has also been suggested to other users with problems relating to Big Endian audio that they save the audio as a separate file from their video, then put it into an audio editing program and save it in some other format e.g. standard .wav format. Then reinsert that into Video Studio with the video. But of course that won't work in your case since you can't get the video into VS in the first place!
Since Big and Little Endian are both associated with Java, I also wonder whether you have Java on your computer, and if so, whether it is up to date?

Re: VS pro X7 crashes when opening MTS
Based on your suggestion I just installed Java, version 7 update 51. Did some searching for the Codec you mentioned but what I found so far is that this is something that only works on a Mac?
As this Lumix camera is a very coming "nothing special but good" camera, I have troubles believing that its only me?
Thanks again...

Re: VS pro X7 crashes when opening MTS
I see, though, that your Lumix comes with a package of items, including "CD-ROM featuring PhotoFunStudio 8.3 PE and SilkyPix Developer Studio 3.1 SE". Did you install those programs, and the first in particular? Again, I can only say I suspect your computer doesn't have the necessary codec(s) installed.
One review of the Lumix noted:
One review of the Lumix noted:
I have never heard of this program before, so don't know what else it can do. No doubt it is pretty simple, but one option might be for you to process your video into another format using that program, and then edit the resulting video in VS... I know that is not an ideal solution, but might at least be worth considering. Hopefully, someone with a similar camera to yours might see your post and come up with a suggestion. I know there are a number of our users who have Lumix cameras too, though I don't know if they are the same model as yours...PhotoFunStudio allows you to work with the movies produced by the FZ200. You can edit your video and then burn the results to a Blu-ray (or DVD) disc. You can also save the edited movie in MPEG-2 format. If you want to use something else to edit your videos, most modern Windows video editing suites can work with the AVCHD files produced by the FZ200. However, some of them may not support the AVCHD Progressive format, so check with your software manufacturer first.

Re: VS pro X7 crashes when opening MTS
I have had LUMIX cameras for awhile now: GH1, GH2, and now GH3. I had lots of trouble with earlier versions of VS but have had no trouble even with very high bitrate videos that GH3 produces with the last two or three versions. I am pretty sure the FZ200 files have very similar codec than my cameras. Ken's suggestion might be the issue, but I don't think I have installed the Panasonic programs in my laptop, and I have no troubles there.
Since you say you were successful the first time you added four files on the timeline, I am very puzzled. I don't really know what happened, but while it does not help you, you should be able to make this work. Some ideas: Perhaps you installed some other program after that time when it worked? Revert to a prior version and re-install X7? Create different res MTS files, try a different computer if you have one available.

Re: VS pro X7 crashes when opening MTS
I have experienced the same problem when I upgraded to CVS X7. I could resolve the problem rolling back to the previous graphics driver. The difference is that I am using the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 of my Intel Core i7-3770 processor when you seem to use a separate graphic card. Nevertheless, it could be usefull to check the drivers because in some configs both drivers can work together. So, if you experience a crash when trying to import MTS files, just roll back from Intel driver ver. 10.18.10.3412 to 10.18.10.3379. The first one was automatically imported from a recent Microsoft Windows update but it has problems with some MTS files. Hope this will help.

Re: VS pro X7 crashes when opening MTS
Dear Jan, you are my hero!
The issue was indeed with the graphic card driver version! In my laptop I have two graphic cards according to the windows hardware manager: Intel HD Graphics 4600 and NVIDEA GeForce GTX 760M.
The Intel HD Graphics 4600 was running on driver version 10.18.10.3412. Pushing the button of "check if newer versions of driver are available" confirmed that I have the latest version. HOWEVER:..... I went to the intel website and... there is a version 10.18.10.3496. Instead of downgrading which you suggested I upgraded through the intel website. Restartet the computer and... PROBLEM SOLVED!
Now finally I can start enjoying VS Pro X7. Thank you!!

Re: VS pro X7 crashes when opening MTS
So, Intel HD graphics driver 10.18.10.3412 definitely is the culprit or, at least, is not compatible with VideoStudio X7. Rolling back to 3379 or "rolling over" to the new 3496 version seems to be THE solution. Glad to know I am your hero
