VS7 64 bit Trial - Mask Frames don't work

Post by bjtap »

When trying to apply a mask frame to a video in overlay track 1, I get no results. When I select any mask frame the overlay track does not change, it remains the original rectangle. This does NOT happen on VS6. I use the same exact clips on the same exact tracks in both VS7 and VS6.
I have downloaded and reinstalled VS7 trial 2x.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Barry

so are you saying that you have a video in the overlay track - and when you put the mask in the next overlay track down it does not mask the video.

perhaps you you take a screen shot of your screen and let us see what you are seeing.

I see this

Brian,
Thanks for the reply. Here is a screen shot. Notice I have a mask selected but the preview does not change. This is true for all chosen mask frames. In VS6 one can see the change immediately in the preview window.

Ah - those masks - mine seems to work perfectly so it looks as though we need to find out why it doesn't work on your PC

I don't know at the moment

I just uninstalled the 64 bit version of VS7 (had to in order to install the 32 bit version). This problem does NOT exist in the 32 bit version of VS7.
What about other installers of the 64 bit version. Do your mask frames work properly?

I created a video in VS7 32 bit trial that had plenty of mask frames applied. No problem. I then uninstalled the 32 bit version and reinstalled VS7 64bit version and loaded the project that had the mask frames applied. Upon playback all the mask frames were lost (gone).
Any ideas? Settings within VS7? Settings within video card? Settings within windows?
Thanks for any ideas.
When I click on the files (in 64bit version) that had the masks applied I get the message "The original mask file doesn't exist. The first mask item will be applied as default." I select OK. The program selects the first mask (the oval) and I am back to where I started... the mask not being applied.

What would be lost if I just used the 32 bit version vs. the 64 bit version?

If you read some of the other threads on X7's 64 bit performance, the answer to your question is probably you would lose nothing. And it seems you gain faster rendering speeds. You would also gain if you have any plug-ins that are 32 bit as they won't work on the 64 bit version. A number of us here, for example, have bought some of the NewBlue Video Essentials packages, but their installer does not "see" the 64 bit version of Video Studio and so cannot load, even though those packages are for both 32 and 64 bit programs.

I am glad to know I am not the only one. Any other 64 bit users having this problem?

This brings up a question. I would prefer the 64 bit version but it appears one can only purchase either 64 bit or 32 bit. If I purchase the 32 bit version and Corel fixes the 64 bit version... will I be able to get the 64 bit version without buying it for full price? I would ask Corel directly but I honestly could not find any way of contacting them for pre-sales questions.

Hi Barry

Both Brian and Ken replied and confirmed for them that the frame masks worked ok, so if you are having a problem then its probably your system or the program installation.
I have just installed 64 bit and will check this out in due course, I have to say that I did not notice a problem when running 64 bit earlier and will only confirm Ken and Brians findings.

So what's different?

As for purchasing both versions, I would have thought they would allow you to download both as you can only install one or the other with one serial number you are only getting one program.

Corel use Facebook so maybe ask there?

Post updated, I have tested Chrome Key frames options with no problems?

Hi

I have done more searches on this problem.

Chroma Frame Masks

The images used to create the mask are BMP types, you should have them here:-
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7\Samples\Image

I see 104 images in that folder.

For the masks I think they are called M01.bmp to M36.bmp

Do you see these images?

some users who were unhappy with the 64bit version subsequently downloaded and installed the 32 bit version - if your purchase download link is still active you should be able to download and install the 32bit from the same link - it appears you do not specifically buy 64 or 32 but can have both - although of course only one active at any time.

There is a topic here :- http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 23#p285823 from a user who succesfully changed from 64 to 32 bit.

Thanks very much for looking into this. The files are there (under C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7\Samples\Image. The problem is when I select them in the 64 bit version they do not apply to the video. In VS6 and VS7 32 bit they do apply and one can see the change immediately.
I find it interesting that when I took a VS7 32 bit project that had masks into the 64bit version "The original mask files doesn't exist" error message appeared. That must indicate something.

Brian
Thanks for clarifying that one can download both the 32 and 64 bit versions. I understand that only one version can be used at a time. I am thinking some of the 64 bit version concerns will be ironed out in the future. This does make my choice easier.

well yes you are going to get some errors or re-link requests if you open a project made in 32 bit version and then opened in 64 bit version.
All Video Studio sample files for 32 bit are under the C:\Program Files (x86)
64 bit files are here C:\Program Files, simply a different location.

As I mentioned I have tried both versions, now running 64 bit with no problems.

Have you tried resetting the program to its default/installed state.
Rename the folder 17.0 to 17.0copy
For 64 bit----C:\Users\Trevor\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\17.0
For 32 bit ---C:\Users\Trevor\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro

Start Video Studio will recreate the folder from new.
If this fixes things, delete the old 17.0copy folder.
This will affect the library so if you need the library then backup, Settings Library Manager - Export Library--Create a new to hold the library files.
