X7: Vitascene limited to X5 and X6

Post by Ken Berry »

I have just answered another question about a missing filter in the Vitascene plug-in in X7. In doing so, I wanted to search what filters were included in my version. When I applied Vitascene to a video, and went to Customise it, I got a message saying that the installed version of Vitascene was only applicable to X5 and X6, and asking if I had a licence for it. (I don't of course... just the fact that it came with X7...) See photo attached.

I tried resetting VS by deleting the 17.0 folder in AppData but this did not help. Got the same message next time I opened X7 and had the file rebuilt.

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this?

EDIT: I have been looking at the 64 bit version of X7 I have on another computer, and on it the Vitascene filter works fine without giving that licence message. I began wondering if the reason I am having this problem on the original computer was because I had reloaded X6 *after* I had loaded X7, and thus probably had the X7 Vitascene overwritten by the X6 version. So I am in the process of reinstalling X7 on that computer in the hope that it might reverse the situation i.e. overwriting the X6 overwrite!!!

Scare over. I uninstalled X7 then reinstalled it and all the bonus features, including the proDAD filters. And Vitascene no longer asks for a licence...

I have not as yet reinstalled X6, but from what you have experienced, if I do install X6 then I will have issues with X7 unless I uninstall X7 first, I really don't want to go down that path at the moment.

Yes I suspect you will indeed have problems. That was about the fourth reinstall of X7 on this computer, the last (third) time caused by my having 'refreshed' the operating system as suggested by Win 8.1 itself. What I hadn't realised was that it removed all programs not included in the original Windows install. As I was anxious to give myself a video editing capability on this computer, I loaded X7, and only later when I had the time, did I load X6 with these results -- and a fourth installation of X7!! It wouldn't be so painful if it didn't take so long. Mind you, I used the program files copied to documents from the last load, which are not removed with an uninstallation... That at least speeded things up a bit.
