White out

Post by vicstone »

I need to white out something in my pic. Eraser produces checkered board during the erase. How do I get rid off that checkerred thing?

The "checkered thing" is transparency. Think of it as you just erased a hole in your paper. Without seeing the image and knowing what you want to "white out" it's hard to say what the best method is. You could try the clone tool.

How do I get rid off that transparency? I don't want it. I have a text that has some dark spots/words that I want to remove. It is black on white.

As Kathy just suggested, use the clone tool. Link it to something white in your image, and then apply the clone tool to the black spots. Or else just use a brush, select white as its colour and apply white to the black spots.

Create a new layer. (Raster). Make it white.
Make sure it's the bottom layer.
Select your photo layer and erase the unwanted section.
Then merge the layers.

If it is text on a picture / image and you need to remove that text (not a copyright notice is it??) then you would need to use the clone tool carefully.
If it is just text on a plain background eg Black text on white or on any color, then use the eye dropper to sample the color and then the Paintbrush tool to paint out the letters with that background colour. By making the paintbrush large enough and using the shift key you can wipe out a whole line of text quickly. That is the best way if you are unfamiliar with layers.

Thank you Ken and hartpaul for your suggestion to use paintbrush. That was exactly what I wanted. All those layers, cloning and other things are complicated and are not for me. I wanted a simple erase. For example, I wanted to erase letter "o" to turn word Hello to Hell. This is just an example.
