X7 and MXF files

Post by fnannery »

I have version X4 and would upgrade to version X7 if it allows importing of MXF files from a Canon XF100 (without me having to manually convert them to MPEG first as Im currently having to do) but unless I am blind there is no mention anywhere on the site of what files the new version will import from. Can you confirm or deny that X7 imports MXF files. Thanks

I had never heard of that format before your question. But in any case, no MXF is not listed among the files VS (and VS X7) can import... From a quick Google search I see that it is a professional end container format, and it is thus only more professional (and expensive) programs like recent Adobe Premiere versions, Avid and Final Cut Pro in Apple that can deal with it.

Not sure if your problem is solved or not. This mxf files may can't supported by VLC directly. And even other edit software like Adobe premiere may not do such job(PFC X can support this format). Or you can install a FCP X and output as some normal format, like mp4,mov etc. May I know where your mxf files came from ? Some camera brands offered mxf plug-in to help customer convert their mxf files . You can go and have a try. Or find yourself some third-party software. LIke Handbrake , ffMPEG, MPEG Streamclip , those are all free. Hope this can help someone.
