Preview Playback choppy

Post by geeves »

Hi, I've noticed that my playback in Videostudio is always very choppy. I've tried playing around with all different types of project settings to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. However, it has had no effect on playback in the preview window.

When I export the videos, they turn out fine. The original source videos are the raw uncompressed .avi files and I am compressing them down to mp4 and mpg.

Anyway to fix this or is this a hardware issue that I can't get around?

Would I be better off converting the source video first and then editing the converted videos?

I see that you have X7 from another of your posts. Have you set the Project Properties to match those of the proposed output formats, or even your uncompressed .avi files? With X7 you can now set Project Properties for high definition video, which you could not do with older versions. See if that makes a difference.

what exactly do you mean by "raw uncompressed avi files"

can you right click on one of the videos in your timeline - choose "properties" and copy and post those properties on here.

I've tried changing project properties to match my output format and to match my input format, both did not help. I am actually using version x6.

I have attached a screenshot of the file properties in Videostudio and one in windows. The bitrate on the video is drastically different. Is that something I can fix?

Where did you get these "raw, uncompressed" avi files?

How did you capture them i.e. what device did you use? And what software was involved? What alternatives were there for the capture format?

I'm using the Sabrent USB capture device (the actual hardware model is Syntek STK1150).

I'm using the software that came bundled with the driver package. I tried using with Corel, but couldn't get it to work right.
The software defaulted to .avi files so I went with that.

See if it can be set to mpeg-2 which might make life easier for you... Mpeg-2 is the required format for DVDs... and is MUCH smaller than uncompressed AVIs...
