Paint Shop Pro X6 Update Error

Post by Larry52 »

Is anyone else having problems updating to SP2?

When the update tries to run I get the followng error message;

Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Corel\\installer.

Never had a problem running an update before.

I'm using the 32 bit version.

Any help would be appreciated.

I finally got SP2 to update, but it required removing PSP X6 completely, re-installing it, updating to SP2 then re-installing my plug-ins.
I tried editing the registry key permissions as some websites suggest but had no success.
PSP X6 is now running with the latest service pack, but hopefully this fix will not be required for every update.

I came here looking for a more stable PSPX6 and found out about SP2. Not sure why PSP didn't tell me about it... I have check for updates and I use it all the time!

Anyway, found the notification of SP2 and downloaded it with visions of sugarplums and no more lost work in my head.

Except I cannot get SP2 to install. Worse, I searched for my problem and it appears to be the exact problem others were getting with SP1. I run the SP2 installer and a box comes up telling me that I do not need to update. If I click ok, it aborts the installation. If I click anything (X, cancel) it aborts the installation of SP2.

If I wait until the installation finishes - it doesn't. It just hangs with the installation progress bar completely full and will do nothing else. If I click on the error message, it aborts the install.

This seems to have happened with SP1 and I think the fix was that Corel eventually offered a fix. So unless there is a similar fix for this, I'm stuck...
