.mov file formats and "save trimmed video"

Post by knoepfelj »

With the old version of X6, I was able to take the *.mov files off of my camera and trim off any video off the end or beginning. To do this, I would move the trimmed video part to the story board and then click on "File" and then select "Saved Trimmed Video". Now with version X7, this file selection is greyed out. If I convert my mov file to a .wmv, then I can select "Saved Trimmed Video". I have tried uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling to no avail. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I can do to fix this problem? I really hate to convert my .mov files to .wmv, just to trim them up.

But what did you use to trim the video? Obviously not VS. If not, why not?

Hi

Hmmm

I hadn’t noticed that, the Save Trimmed Video option using X7 is no longer available.

I must admit that I do not use Save Trimmed Video but complete all trims then Share Create Video File choosing my output option.

It may be a Mov H264 issue as VS is unable to create this type. You don’t give details of your Mov files?
Mov video using other compression types may allow for Save Trimmed Video.

I can only advise that you report this to Corel Customer Support, they are probably unaware of the change between X6 and X7

.mov is just a container, the format is determined by the codec used to create the video inside.
That said, never having used "saved trimmed video" I gave it a try with VSX7 64 bit and had no problem, the selection is not greyed out and saving completed without issues.
The info on the type of video I am using is attached, the video format is listed as AVC, also known as H264.
Do you know what codecs your camera uses, because as Lata has stated, your issue could be related to codecs used to create your videos

I just tried with a .mov AVC with different properties, and also found Save Trimmed Video in X7 was greyed out.

I need to correct the above post, the mediaInfo file attached is for the wrong video, i was testing different .mov files and did not notice that they were different formats.
I confirm that if the .mov format is AVC then "save trimmed video" does not work, however if the .mov file format is JPEG then it does work.
Sorry for any confusion
