Subtitles OK in preview but NotOK once burned!??

Post by safendoulis »

Anybody,

I have wasted many hours trying to get my subtitles to work. Most recently I have gotten to the point where all my subtitles preview fine in Edit mode and they work perfectly in the preview screen in Finish mode too. However, once I burned to HD and played the DVD from the folders, some subtitles didn't display (most did). I went ahead and burned a DVD from the HD folders anyway (illogical I know) and much as I'd expected those subtitles still didn't work when I played the actual DVD in a player.

I have gone back and checked the positioning, colouring and transparency of all the subtitles... nothing, they're all the same (bottom centred).

Any clues, any known bugs/flaky behaviour?

Much appreciated - Stefan

Sorry, I haven't a clue what could be causing your problems, but you haven't said exactly what you are doing to create them, so how would I know, anyway?

I have done about four projects with a single language and one with English, French, German and Greek. Never had the slightest problem except when burning NTSC from a PAL text. (I had to manually alter the frame rate in the TXT file)

For the multi-lingo project, I saved the English sts as a TXT file, which I subsequently imported three times and simply overtyped the new text over the English.

In all cases, I left the first track blank for the No sub-titles menu, the first real st track being the second one.

Well, I did nothing tricky... I entered the subtitles by hand using the Add/Edit subititles option from Edit mode. I exported to text file just for a backup copy but thats all. There is just English, I am using the subtitles for the date/time/location information on each chapter. Rather, the point is they preview just perfectly then the subtitles rendered in the resulting DVD don't work properly.

Had similar prob. My project had lots of short chapters. I F3'd the start points for the subtitles. Apparently my subtitles actually 'belonged' to the ends of the previous chapters. This resulted in them briefly flashing or not showing up in the stand-alone player. Preview worked. So, the make sure that subtitles start after chapter's starting point.

Ulead tech support are lookign at this now. They had me re-install cleanly but the problem remained. They now have downloaded the entire project from me and are looking at it. Great service Ulead!

What purpose does your so-called poll serve? Hundreds use WS2 with s/ts daily without problems. Most reported cases of problems have been due to trying to overlap them. I recommend at least one or two full frames between ending one and starting the next.
