Having some difficulty with a complex timeline.
Even with Ripple editing turned on all layers, whenever i insert a clip, nothing moves... the inserted clip just goes partially over the one to its right and a blend is automatically created.
I've turned ripple on and off, and I looked in the Preferences under Transition, and the automatic box is unchecked.
Any idea why this would be happening? I need to insert clips and have the entire timeline, all layers, move over to the right to expand. They arent moving at all.
Any help would be appreciated.
inserted clips dont push others over even with ripple

Re: inserted clips dont push others over even with ripple
OK now I released that all clips will move if I insert a clip into the First Layer, the Video Track
But it will NOT work if I try to insert a clip on any other layer, example, Overlay layer.
Does Ripple not work if I insert a clip into an Overlay layer? No matter what I do, they always blend instead of moving over.

Ripple editing is quite complex but it will not wok if by inserting a clip into the overlay track the top track needs to move right to retain alignment - because that would mean a gap in the the top track - and - you can't have gaps in the top track.
The answer to your problem may be to put everything in overlay tracks - and have nothing at all in the top track.

thanks but i tried that too... having an empty top track, ripple editing still didnt work for me.
It appears it will only work if clips are inserted into the top track.

Re: inserted clips dont push others over even with ripple
Hi
Ripple Editing works for the top main video track.
If you have activated ripple editing and edit the top track, removing added frames, then the top track will change in length, the overlay clips should stay in sync moving in line with the top track.
It can be a little complicated and editing the top track may affect the overlay clips, a warning will be given if the system needs to remove linked clips.
For the overlay track you can use Shift Click to select adjacent clips, that will help you reposition multiple clips, if that is what you need to do.

Re: inserted clips dont push others over even with ripple
The overlay tracks are designed to work with the Main Video Track, which can not have gaps between clips. So Ripple Editing is used when you need to add some type of clip to the Main Track after you have already inserted clips, and have placed other clips in various overlay tracks. Kinda like at the last minute while editing you decide that your production would look better if you had an establishing shot before the shot of the interior. However you've already gone to the painstaking task of overlaying some images, clips, narration, music, ensuring they're properly aligned with your main video track. So with Ripple Editing activated for all those overlay tracks, you insert your establishing shot at the far left, and all clips slide to the right keeping everything in sync and lined up.
