capture suddenly stops capturing

Post by ottersea »

The last two times I have tried to capture a video it has stopped suddenly. I am doing everything the same as always but it will not complete the capture. I have set it for 2 hours of capture and then it stopped after 35 mins and17 mins. I got the error "unable to switch to capture mode, check if your video capture driver is working" As I said I have not done anything different then usual. I had to reboot the computer to get it to attempt capture the second time but it still stopped. Any ideas why this is happening?

Well, you haven't really given us any information on which to base a reply apart from the fact you are having trouble capturing. You say you are doing things the way you always do. Well, you may know what you normally do, but we have no idea. We don't even know what you are trying to capture, its format, and any devices and cables that may be involved. Is it, for example, DV/AVI from a DV tape camera? Or something else?

The only thing you have told us is that you set the time for 2 hours - there is no need to set any time - just leave the duration setting at zero and it should capture the whole tape - assuming you are capturing from tape.

Capturing from a VHS tape going thru canopus 110 and avt 8710. Duration set to length of tape plus 15 mins, Source AVC compliant DV device, format DVD, capture folder E:/video. This is what I have always used and it has worked fine now it quits capturing after about 35 miuntes.

Does it always stop at the same point? Does it stop for all tapes? Does it work without the AVT?Exactly how is everything hooked up? You have to give a lot more information since we don't have your hardware to check things.

Are there any blank spots on the tape when it stops capturing?

Why not use the software that comes with your device for capturing?

If it always worked then either something has changed in your system or there is a problem with the source.

The vhs audio is plugged into the Canopus The video goes via S video into the AVT and then via S video into the Canopus. This all exits the Canopus via firewire into the puter. As I have said this just started happening. It stops capturing around 35 minutes into the tape. I am running windows 7 and as far as I know neither the AVT or Canopus has capture ability. So unless something changed in one of the windows updates I do not know why this is happening.

Have you tried capturing the DV out of the Canopus using the freeware and small WinDV program? www.windv.mourek.cz If that too gives trouble then we would probably need to look at either your current firewire drivers or something physical e.g. faulty cables...
