Break point
Guys can anyone help me with the creation or selecting of a good break point for my project which I plan to put on a double layer dvd (8.5). Is there anything I can do in Corel Video Studio ProX6 to create or find where a break point should be and how I can make this work. Thanks

Re: Break point
What do you want a break point for - what do you mean by break point - is your video bigger than 8.5Gb ???
if your video is bigger than 8.5Gb how can we suggest a cut point without seeing the video
your question needs a bit more explanation please.

Re: Break point
I believe that newfielander is referring to the "point" at which the burning process switches to the 2nd layer when burning to a DL DVD.
Isn't that done "automatically" by the burning program?
Personally, I don't bother with DL discs and consider them more trouble then they are worth. I tried a few times and found that they would often not play on DVD players so I prefer to split my longer videos (> 90 minutes) over 2 DVDs.

Re: Break point
I too thought this was done automatically by the program. But otherwise I am also in complete agreement with canuck about avoiding DL DVDs. Too many bad stories here...

Re: Break point
Yes Canuck your correct that what I'm trying to explain,I'm sure there's a way to do this, its a hunting dvd I'm making and I have watched many hunting dvds on a 8.5 dvds without any issues. So basically is it the same as inserting a chapter marker?

Re: Break point
As far as I know you cannot set the "breakpoint" with VS. The breakpoint has nothing to do with chapter markers I would think.
Why don't you just burn the DL DVD and let the program set the breakpoint?

Re: Break point
When you burn a DL disc the programme fills the first layer then seamlessly transfers to the second layer - you do not have to set anything.
Then when you play it pack it plays the first layer and seamlessly transfers to play from the second - you do not need any special input from the viewer.
Although it is a double layer disc it records and plays back exactly as if it were a single layer with 8.5GB capacity.

Re: Break point
Hi ,just an update,I figured it out. Maybe this is why some of you guys are having trouble with DL dvds. I don't use Corel Video Studio to produce a disc, I just make a dvd folder and than used a highly suggested program called IMG Burn to burn the dvd folder I created to a disc and this is where (finding a break point ) is important. I have used Video Studio to burn a disc and like you guys I to have had more trouble than what I want. So all I did was put in a transition at the 1 hour mark of my 2 hour video and marked that transition as a chapter,(I should have made 2- 3 chapter marks just to be safe)but in my dvd menu I don't include the markers as chapters and than
i created my DVD folder and burned it with the program I suggested.

Re: Break point
So how do you know that the breakpoint occurs at the transition you set? The program would have automatically created the breakpoint at the 1 hour mark anyway.
I always create a folder set or image file and then use Imgburn to burn the DVD. When I used this method to create DL DVDs some of the DLs would still not play correctly.
Why is it so important for you to set the breakpoint?

Re: Break point
Hi Canuck, to answer your question ' how do you know that the breakpoint occurs at the transition you set?'' 'well IMG Burn finds the breakpoint and offers to use it, but before I created the break point ''manually'' , IMG would advise me not to burn this disc because it could not find either break point. Like I said earlier I create a dvd folder using Corel, so if Corel created one anyway at the hour mark why didn't IMG detect it?
