Align stopped working

I do work where I'm pasting images into larger pics. They have to be placed in certain spots, and I customized my toolbars to include buttons for Align Top, Bottom, Left, Right, etc. Today, when I went to start on a new project, the buttons aren't working, and are greyed out. I tried the Objects/Align menu, but they're greyed out too, and don't work. The only thing different from before when it worked is I installed SP2.

I'm using only the 64 bit version.

Follow-up: This morning I tried playing around with it, and I discovered that if I paste the small image as a new layer, instead of a selection, the align stuff works. It just doesn't work as a selection anymore.

More weirdness!

I uninstalled everything and cleaned out the registry using CCleaner Pro. I then rebooted, and then reinstalled, and unchecked automatically check for updates. I then ran the program, and the Objects/Align worked fine on my selection. I then installed the SP1 I had saved when it came out, and the Align commands were greyed out again. But they were working with it before! I tried SP2 then, but it made no difference.

Anybody have any ideas?

Well, I don't have either SP1 or SP2 (which I understand includes SP1) installed and all works just fine and my options are not grayed out. Maybe someone with the service packs installed can test for you to see if their options are grayed out.

I feel that unless you really need whats in the service packs then avoid them. eg. for me the only thing broken in X6 was the processing for the Image > Object Extractor. But since that still worked in X5 and X4 I did not bother with installing the SP1 which subsequently broke the zoom in and out using mouse wheel, and which was then fixed by a Hotfix. If I wanted to use the object extractor then I would go back and use X4. The only reason for me to updat to the newer versions was some new feature that was introduced and which usually worked even if the changes did sometimes break something else.


Each SP seems to offer more support for more cameras, but if I only have one brand of camera and am not likely to change for the next year then this extra Raw support has no significance to me.

SP1 as said only affered a fix to the Image Extractor for me.
SP2 offered the correction for the fit to window broken by SP1. It also offered improved Smart Carver (have only used that about 2-3 times in its history) as well as something to do with fixing HDR merge in XP (HDR have used in earlier versions but rarely and not in X6)
So I can get along quite well without the SP so far and the frustration they bring.

Yeah, if there is no fix for this then I'll have to do that. But then you have to deal with the constant reminders to update on closing.
