I am also new to VideoStudio and understand that this suggestion has been made for "years" as I'm told. A suggestion was made to me to place an "X" by renaming the file in the library to show the clip/photo has been used which is a good workaround, although not efficient. I can't imagine why this feature isn't available...it seems very basic and very necessary to track your project...especially if it is a large project. I wouldn't want the used items to "hide" as you suggested (just my opinion) but rather just checked off. Good suggestion...hope Corel listens to it. Since I'm new, I'm not sure if Corel actually reviews this board?mrrwpvt wrote:I've only been using Video Studio for a few days, but would like to make this suggestion with regards to the Library Panel. A check box option to hide clips that have been placed on the story board or time line would be very helpful. When creating a slide show of several hundred images, it would simplify not duplicating them. I use an online photo book creator called Picaboo that includes this function. You can, of course "uncheck" it to see all the items in your library if you do wish to include one multiple times.

I don't quite understand what you mean. You have to explain better exactly what you meanGuillermoContreras wrote:I’m new to Video studio but in the several hours that I’ve been using it I would like to be able to have folders within my current folder. This sure would help out to keep things nice and tidy specially when working with many files coming from several cameras like I’m doing.
You can easily set up sub-folders using Windows.

In the "+ Add" colum you can only see folders, not sub-folders.
Creating sub-folders in any OS is simple enough (this is basic and we shuold all now this by now), but not in Video Studio. At least not the I know of...

If X6 or X7 do not install on your system then X8 will most likely not install either (whenever it comes out next year)OKIEWARDOYO wrote:i hope i can install this x8 version on my pc,

I would like to see the library folders linked to the projects. So, if you bring up a project file it only opens the folders relative to the project. Or, have sub-folders so we can keep projects organized by folder.

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
For as many versions as I can remember, going right back to version 7 (we are now 10 versions on with X7 or 17), you have always been able to create new folders for each Project. The attached image is from X7 but is similar to previous versions. You click on the "+ Add" button at the top right of the preview screen (indicated by the red arrow) and add a name for a new folder related to the project being edited. And in Settings, you will find an entry for "Library Manager" which allows you to play around a little more.Or, have sub-folders so we can keep projects organized by folder.
OK, the new folder does not open automatically when you open a project with which it is associated, but it is easy enough to find in the list of Library folders.

The ability to sync Video and Audio when out of phase. As of now, I use AVIdemuxer should the need arise.

- "Film Grain' effect (similar to noise/static - a workaround is currently possible, however)
- Manual entry of Bitrate (no limitations, seems to currently be restricted based on frame size, hidden as as "Advanced Option" perhaps)
- Estimated Output Render Completion time (hard to do, but a rough estimate based on how much is already done of the render perhaps)
- More tracks!

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Is the "Old Film" filter (in the FX library) not what you are after? It has been there since I first started using VS 12 or 13 years ago with version 7. (EDIT: I have now read your other thread on this, and see that indeed it is something different from Old Film that you are after.)- "Film Grain' effect (similar to noise/static)
Well, there are always going to be limitations based on the international standards for certain formats. For instance, AVCHD 2.0 is supposed to have a maximum of 28 Mbps, at least for burning to Blu-Ray discs. And standard def DVDs cannot have a combined audio/video bitrate of more than around 10,000 kbps, but in practice most DVD players will have difficulty if the mpeg-2 has a video bitrate of more than 8000 kbps.- Manual entry of Bitrate (no limitations, seems to currently be restricted based on frame size)
But that aside, when you build a Custom template, with some formats you can specify the bitrate you want, and if you use Share > Same As First Video you can get identical output to the video in your project even when it is above accepted international standards. With my GoPro Hero 3 Black, for instance, I can output edited video with its usual bitrate of 29 Mbps AVC .mp4 despite, as I say above, the international standard theoretical maximum of 28 Mbps.

Thanks, I missed that "Same As First Video" option, I'll try that.Ken Berry wrote:Is the "Old Film" filter (in the FX library) not what you are after? What I meant initially was, rendering with a very high bitrate, in an attempt to avoid compression artifacts in a 'pre-render' that will be utilized in other Projects. Ah well, the limitations are useful in avoiding incompatibility problems with players, etc. I suppose I should just go all the way and use an Uncompressed AVI (then I can have an alpha channel as well); but I was trying to save some disk space, too. Thanks for the tip, regardless

And if, in Settings > Preferences > General, you tick the box beside "Show message when inserting first video clip into timeline", then when you *do* insert a clip, a message box should appear asking if you want to match the Project Properties to those of the clip. If you accept this, then apart from Same as First Clip, you can also choose Same As Project Properties for output...

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Hello Corel
For me one very important thing is missing in VideoStudio and it is sound synchronisation between tracks, like in PluralEyes 3.
If one thing is very time consuming in video editing is synchronisation of different sound sources coming from video camcorder and other sound sources. It will be so cool to be able to select few scenes and soundtracks and by clicking one button having all of them sync then we will just have to keep the best soundtrack for the audio. And only the transition between the different scenes will be left to work on.
A dream no?!?

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Sorry to make another post in this 'wishlist' thread, but I wanted to thank you for your helpfulness; and also state that although these two steps of 'matching the properties of the clip' work well, VSP still restricts itself to very conservative 'standard/player compatibility' settings and does not allow deviance...Ken Berry wrote:And if, in Settings > Preferences > General, you tick the box beside "Show message when inserting first video clip into timeline", then when you *do* insert a clip, a message box should appear asking if you want to match the Project Properties to those of the clip. I even created and then attempted to import, a clip with specifically-set resolution and bitrate - and when importing, it gave the message to 'match the properties as the first clip', showing the properties as matching... but when it came time to Render, it restricted itself to a much higher bitrate and was of course much larger
I understand what Corel is doing, trying to restrict bitrates and resolutions for compatibility with standalone players, etc. but it would be nice for an "Advanced" button/section, where users who know what they are doing (or want to do something specifically), can set resolution/bitrate combinations to be whatever they want them to be, not what the program thinks the settings should be.
For instance, with MPEG-4 Part 10, much lower bitrates, while maintaining the same quality, can be reached - but the 'lower limit' set on many of the resolutions won't ever let anyone experience this (nor have the freedom to put more clips onto portable devices/thumb drives, or email more attachments to family, etc).
The current lower-limit on bitrates for the MPEG-4 format are matched far too conservatively for the respective resolutions
I apologize ahead of time for mentioning competitors, but Sony's Vegas/MovieStudio line and CyberLink's Powerdirector products both allow manual input of datarate/bitrate, allowing the user the ability to use the program and not have the program get in the way... As it is now (VSPx7), if I purchased VSP I would only be utilizing it for 'pre-rendering' and have to finalize my output in another program, if these obstructive limitations remain. On a related note, I would like to add to the list:
* Ability to manually input the options for MPEG-4/h.264/AVC encoding (Level of Deblocking, Level of Subpixel Motion Estimation, etc)

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
I create subtitles for all my videos, and I'm very happy that VideoStudio has the function that analyzes a sound track and suggests the places to write the subtitles to.
However, the function is not working too well at the moment - as soon as there's surrounding noise, the recognition of the spoken parts deteriorates.
That would be something to enhance.
A function like Google's voice recognition would be brilliant. At the moment I speak comments on my tablet (Android tablet with Quick Office), and the tablet puts it down in text.
If VideoStudio had a similar function, i.e. not only recognizing when somebody speaks but also to recognize what he speaks, that would really something.
Other wishes:
Enhancing the possibilities to work with sound tracks, especially with surround sound. Clicking the pointers and moving them is handy when you want to quickly make a track fade or so, but it is not very precise. I haven't found any possibility yet to tell the program that, for example, the sound shall start to move to the background at exactly a certain position etc.
A BluRay template for 24p. I know that the standard allows it, but I'm not able to burn a BluRay with 24p. (Well, not that I really NEED this option, but I'm wondering why it's not there)
