Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
A suggestion that I would make is to drop the picture in picture function and to just keep the customize motion feature. The current available "templates" in picture in picture can be perhaps incorporated, if possible, into the motion option.

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
I would add that the competition has a "checkmark" in the file in the library if it is used in the timeline. A huge help when I have thousands of media files in the library, to know which ones I have already brought down to the timeline.
Davidk wrote:Well, after only 9 days since release its bit early to say there's no interest in supporting a wishlist for X8. But some response/recognition from Corel to the items that get listed and don't make it would certainly help. I did note that many suggestions made as a result of beta test were adopted.
So, to my list so far:
1. provide some colour scheme options for the workspace. That dreary funereal black backdrop that's been there ever since X2 really gets to me - I'm close enough to pushing up daisies that I really don't need reminding of it every time I use the product.
2. provide a volume control in the panel for the selected menu music when creating a DVD with menu
3. A help system that has the basics - the text subject index, user manual and other similar items - truly local (installed on the machine with the program) that can assist with help when there's no absolutely no internet connection available. Those that think the internet is ubiquitous ought to spend some time outside the cities where connectivity is via V92 dial up modem and anything like ADSL 1 is awesome.
4. a discrete preferences folder, separate from the current working folder item, for audio and voiceover: mixing them in with the working items just begs for trouble when cleanup of old un-required work files occurs - and the easy option is to simply delete the folder contents rather than pick thru the various files that seem to live there after a render or DVD burn etc etc .
5. a feature in painting creator that would allow a mark to pulse or bloom, eg put a circle or droplet on a place and pulse it (like the direction indicator lights on a car) as a means of both creating position and attracting attention.

Exactly (the "competition" is for example Pinnacle Studio owned by Corel, too) - this is probably very simple to implement, and will greatly help us finiding used files in currently editing clip.gamccom500 wrote:I would add that the competition has a "checkmark" in the file in the library if it is used in the timeline. looking forward to that too !

Up the activation limit to 10 activations or at least give us a way to de-authorize computers like Windows Office does.

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Hello Hello Me again
Few more option that will be cool to have:
1- Mask improvement: Having a point to point mask option (something like we used to set the shape of image or video, the little green square but with the possibility to add some to create new shape)
2- Option to select between having the mask to follow the frame of the image or video or to stay static (when movement is applied to a pic or video).
3- A way to move the mask on the image or to move the image behind the mask.
I know that it is possible to add custom mask but this will make it a much more flexible application.
4- Also one thing that could be very nice is to have is a way to see ‘a Project audio pick line’ at the top of the time line to have a better way to synchronizing scene transition and audio. Because it is not very easy to always switch between edition mode and audio mode and the audio lines are at the bottom of the projects when you have few video tracks.
5- A better access of all the .swf files, some of them are in the Objects Animation Flash library but many are included in the application demo projects but not included in the library. And should have more!!
6- And again for sure sound synchronization between tracks (VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE)

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Well, as being brand new to video editing (10 days into my trial and just finished editing a 5-minute video using mostly Customize Motion for zoom, rotation and cropping, titling, audio mixing, and other simple stuff), perhaps my perspective will be useful as even after a few hours of use by this newbie, some glaring deficiencies stood out. Not all the suggestions below are to fix deficiencies, but some are:
A. NON-PRODUCT (COMMUNICATION)
1. Give some official feedback (perhaps weekly) on this forum that people's comments are actually being heeded, and that we're not wasting our time just suggesting (or ranting) to a vacuum (it's been close to a year since the original request for comments, and I don't think there has been one official acknowledgement to the over 100 posts with suggestions).
2. Give an expected timeframe for the release.
B. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
3. A "don't remove" request: Continue to support Windows XP (works just fine with acceptable speed and very good stability on my XP machine, thank you, much faster than on Vista for sure on the same hardware (I have dual boot but use mostly XP since everything is way faster).
C. PRODUCT ITSELF
(All comments have to do with improving organization for improving user productivity--others have written about the latest codec or special effect they would like.)
4. Detail on usage of each clip in the library. This has already been mentioned in terms of a check-mark (kind of a no-brainer ...), but it would be easy to add a whole lot of additional useful information (could be shown in the thumbnail view in the upper left and/or right of the thumbnail, and certainly in the detail view in various columns):
E.g., V1-003-020:23.18 which would mean
"Used in video track #1 (V1) as the third clip on the timeline in THAT track (003) with starting time 20:23.18"
(Clips used in multiple tracks could have multiple lines. The detail view could spell this information out less cryptically, but really that wouldn't be necessary--people would easily get used to the cryptic and more compact notation.)
Keep the existing filters for showing video vs. audio vs. picture files, but add sort options to be able to sort by any of the above (track+sequence number, or position on timeline) in addition to existing sort options.
5. Better organization of the Title library. The program was relatively intuitive for me, except for the Title function, which seems to have been made unnecessarily non-intuitive intentionally. For starters, please name the built-in title effects something sensible as opposed to naming them all Lorem Ipsum. This is just a question of putting in sensible names. Beyond that, the odd range of effects when you double-click a thumbnail, vs. double-click the preview pane with a thumbnail select vs. without one selected, vs. putting a thumbnail on a track, etc., was highly counter-intuitive and poorly documented. (Sorry I can't be more specific there, but I know it was easy to delete permanently one of the effects from the PROGRAM without meaning to do so.)
6. Add commenting, search and sort by titles. All clips, titles, etc., in the library should have the ability to have a short description added to it (that doesn't change the filename or the media file itself) and the possibility of searching (filtering) on any keywords in that description, or the filename, etc. Sorting does exist on the three existing attributes (filename, type, date), which should of course be extended to all other displayed attributes (per my comment 4 and this comment). (Music files could have the ability to display/search/sort on at least the basic ID3 tags--artist, title, album, genre--but really this last one would really not be so important to me.)

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Relatively simple features that I would like to see:
1) Put a check mark or something in the library to indicated clips that are included in the active project in the timeline. Corel VideoStudio is literally the only video software among it's primary competitors that does not do this.
2) Add the ability to create sub-libraries within libraries. Currently, only one level of libraries can be added. It would be nice to go at least 2 or 3 levels deep (i.e., sub-folders) to help with organization of larger number of clips.
3) While Fast Flicks is a start, it is very limiting and is template based. Add a smart movie feature that you tell it the clips to use along with settings for items such as the sequence of the clips (random or sequential), a range of duration of output scenes in the project (for example, in 1-4 second range of durations per scene), and total duration of the project (with option to fit the project to the length of the song(s)). Varying the length of the scenes in the final project adds interest. Ideally, the clip length and transitions can be automatically synced with the beat of the song(s). I tried similar functionality of VideoStudio's primary competitors and was not impressed. Pinnacle 18 was not bad, but even with the shortest clip duration setting the clips were all about 4 seconds with no variation in duration and did not sync with the music (the older versions of Pinnacle did a much better job).
4) I cannot directly import video into Corel from my mainstream Canon HD video camera. The import function just takes me to a complex file structure rather than popping up the video scenes on the camera to select from for import. Other Video Editing packages such as Pinnacle 18 handles my camera's imports just fine.

Hi,
Please add the simple windows function to ADD the ability to create sub-libraries within libraries. In other words SUB-FOLDERS to help with organization of larger number of clips within a folder etc.
Thank you
Jeff

VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Hi Corel
I forgot to mention two very important upgrade that should be in the next version
1-Windows resizing In the Motion Tracking and in the Customize Motion Windows
2-In the Customize Motion it is possible to zoom back two times to see large image it will be very useful to be able to zoom in too. Many times if you want to work on very small details it is hard to be precise without zoom in, too small. That option should be in the Motion tracking too.
I hope someone is looking at this and take notes to improve this X8 version for me to by this next release
I Agree to this !!

Voice Recognition to populate sub-title editor. Once populated, you can go in and clean up the words. This would eliminate having to type in everything.

When you cut a clip, create separate whole clips without trimming. Currently, when you cut a clip in the timeline to create two clips, the program creates two whole clips that are each trimmed. The problem is that if you start adjusting those clips, it is easy to lose track and can end up with some overlap. Creating separate, whole clips on cuts would solve.

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
When click "Open Project", default to the Corel "my projects" folder where projects are saved by default. Currently, the import window opens the lastest directory where content was read from which is usually not where projects are saved. I never can remember where projects are saved so this wastes time. Ideally, the default for various types of files could be set up in User Preferences. There could even be a preference button for "use latest" or "use default" directory when opening windows directories in search of projects, content, etc.

Video Studio uses virtual clips, thumbnails and yes when cutting does not affect the original clip, it creates two segments, two clips.
You can see the segments viewing the bar immediately below the preview screen, shows as a white bar,
We can if we wish re-adjust the length back to the full clip.
The digital clock shows the exact frame of those cuts.
If we select one of the segments, File – Save as Trimmed Video will render the segment to a new file, saved to the working folder. A copy being placed in the library. We can then replace the clip in the timeline.
The time it takes to render depends on the video type and compression. Can sometimes be long.
So if that were automatic then every trim of a clip would start a render, I certainly would not want that.
