VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
As always when a new version is released we provide a topic in which your wishes for the next version can be posted.
This allows us to direct any visiting Corel development staff to just one topic to see what users want rather than wading through a few hundred posts.
A lot of the wishes for X7 have not been added so here's your chance to add them again.

Note files that are in use in the work space. With a large number of files, this saves time an mistakes.

It is indeed deplorable to see Corel rushing out with a shoddy product.

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Well, after only 9 days since release its bit early to say there's no interest in supporting a wishlist for X8. But some response/recognition from Corel to the items that get listed and don't make it would certainly help. I did note that many suggestions made as a result of beta test were adopted.
So, to my list so far:
1. provide some colour scheme options for the workspace. That dreary funereal black backdrop that's been there ever since X2 really gets to me - I'm close enough to pushing up daisies that I really don't need reminding of it every time I use the product.
2. provide a volume control in the panel for the selected menu music when creating a DVD with menu
3. A help system that has the basics - the text subject index, user manual and other similar items - truly local (installed on the machine with the program) that can assist with help when there's no absolutely no internet connection available. Those that think the internet is ubiquitous ought to spend some time outside the cities where connectivity is via V92 dial up modem and anything like ADSL 1 is awesome.
4. a discrete preferences folder, separate from the current working folder item, for audio and voiceover: mixing them in with the working items just begs for trouble when cleanup of old un-required work files occurs - and the easy option is to simply delete the folder contents rather than pick thru the various files that seem to live there after a render or DVD burn etc etc .
5. a feature in painting creator that would allow a mark to pulse or bloom, eg put a circle or droplet on a place and pulse it (like the direction indicator lights on a car) as a means of both creating position and attracting attention.

When deleting a clip from the timeline, the option to delete and close gap, this would save a lot of time moving everything left to fill the gap

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
I assume you mean deleting from an overlay track...? Deleting from the main timeline automatically closes the gap -- at least it does in every version of VS I have owned, including X7. To play with an old scientific saying, the timeline abhors a vacuum! Or does the timeline not act this way in your setup?
And if you are talking about the overlay tracks, why would you want to close the gaps? The overlay tracks are specifically designed to have gaps. But if you want things to move in line with deletions in the main timeline, what about ripple editing?

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Hi Ken,
I was definitely referring to the timeline, must have had a "senior moment" I was working on a project late last night and when deleting clips it just left a space, problem is, was I working with VS or Sony Movie Studio, not sure now, anyway you are correct, the gap closes when a clip is deleted.

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
It must have been Movie Studio -- its timeline is more flexible than that in VS...

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
In PD there are options
1. Close the gap or leave a gap
2. Move all the clips in this line or move all clips on all the time line
This is missing in VS
Now wish list
Add a tick mark to the clips added to the time line. Old whine.

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
Very little has changed on the audio side which, I feel, has been ignored from X5 to X7.
I would like to see easier control over the volume both for the whole track and for individual areas in the track. I find selecting and moving the nodes a very fiddly and crude method of volume control. A set of preselected volume levels which could be "clicked" on to the music track would be useful.
I would like to see volume adjustment on a selected music track when the voiceover is initiated. Automatic volume reduction during the voiceover selection would be very useful.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
What you should not wish for
1. That Corel will listen and do something quickly
2. That patch for X7 will come out soon
3. That more wish list you make the more it will get looked at
4. That If you don't make a wish list it matters to Corel
Corel is a horse with blinders and cant see more than 20 degrees either side. They don't see what competition is doing.
Corel grows slowly and since endangered should not be disturbed too often with wish list

Re: VideoStudio Wishlist for Version X8
In Premiere Elements 12, you have the ability with transitions to set them at the end of the clip, the start of the next clip or as normal, overlap the two clips. This is very useful when it is necessary to keep the last few frames at the end /start of a clip, It's frustrating losing the last few frames when adding transitions, so in a lot of instances I just don't add a transition where I would like, I know most professionals do not use transitions, but I prefer the smoother change between clips.
