It's called coding, bananahead. Haven't you ever used opensource?

It just seems to me that Corel did not know what to do with this software when they bought it over. They lack the skills for multiplatform (all their software is windows based), and they are old fashioned closed-source reduced userbase minded...

I always wonder how these coders that work for free manage to feed themselves.

Corel may har realised that their previous facebook update was a bit inadequate, so now:
As you may know from forum posts the Corel photo team has undergone some changes. While the changes may have delayed the release of version 2.0, we can assure you that it is only a delay and that a new version is coming.

With the new version you will see new and more camera support, increased speed and power, new noise reduction tool, bug fixes and new features. Unfortunately that is all we can share at this time.
(posted three hours ago)

Obviously they are not going to release the sourcecode or anything to a program they intend to continue to develop.

I doubt that Corel management will read this so I dont expect to hear anything from them. My email is in my profile if they do.!!!
So you expect a company that paid for the product to give it to you for free and you are then going to commercialise it yourself?
bananahead, are you just misreading all posts or just messing around trying to make people go nuts? He clearly said "sell". And that involves money (or usually does).

Opensourcing is not against making money. Many companies are making good business out of opensource. Else look at your phone and check how much of its software you have paid for, yet how much its software makers are making in dollars.

@lundbech, many of us do not believe they are doing any coding.

Updating a couple of Canon cameras does not take much work. Actually if you mangle exif code, the Canon 6D settings work for a Canon 70D.

So if they were really interested in updating it, why haven't they released a one liner code updated version yet? It looks to me that they are just trying to sell as many licenses as possible and then let it die.

So they don't do anything of significance for over two years and then start talking about version 2.0 which they will charge current users to upgrade.

Yeah, they charge for the next version. That's how they've stayed in business longer than Bibble. Just sayin. It would be nice if they did more than talk though.

All of the decent apps are paid for.

Or are you somehow suggesting that ASP could be ad supported?

A revenue stream has to come from somewhere.

However, getting back to Corel and their software development. I just want them to get the development cycle up to the standard of PSP. Annual releases with 2 or 3 updates in between. They have just released the second service pack (new cameras and bug fixes) for X6.

If companies can 'paint' themselves into a corner and find it all but impossible to go forward then why can't the same principle be applied to users?

If it's so hard for Corel to make a move. Any move. Why is it so hard for users to make a move? Move to another software option.
Bibble was great. ASP was great. But software has moved on over the past few years. So many options now make it possible to wave good bye to software such as ASP and find other options.

Me? I've decided that ASP has run its course. I'm now evaluating my options. And guess what? There are many many options out there that even work better! Really do. I'm not interested in Corels excuse or trying to figure out the reasons why. Coding or not. Time to move on.

I bet you are connecting through Chrome right now
You have crtainly used Adobe Acrobat reader
Your mobile phone runs Android
You downloaded movies through bittorrent
Your TV and your vacuum cleaner run Linux
If you ever did drawing you sure came accross Blender, Inkscape and many others
You have certainly used gimp

If you did none of those... well, you really did not have enough experience in life yet ;-)

I have no issues paying for a new version when there have been regular updates to the current version.

Look at almost any other software company and you will find interim updates that fix bugs and add minor features. ASP has been sorely lacking in both while we here news of them developing features that would benefit less than 1% of users (OpenCL anyone).

I paid full price for Bibble and paid again when they sold out to Corel, but the program hasn't changed in any significant way for almost three years. Now they are going to want more money in order to (maybe) get a couple of the features/fixes that have been sorely lacking since they acquired Bibble.

Paying for an app does not guarantee it will be better (or even as good as) a free app that does the same thing.

Or that it will supported as well as a free app either. You need look no further than these forums to see truly dreadful support for a "paid for" app.

In January, our friend Rick Champagne posted the following news on this board:
as of December 1st, 2013, Corel Photo & Video products moved to another part of the company
...
The great news is that Joseph Lin will continue in his Product Management role for AfterShot Pro as well as some other members of the team.
Mr. Lin has 49 posts on this user board (http://forum.corel.com/EN/search.php?au ... 2&sr=posts), all about Paint Shop Pro. Within almost three months he did not have the time/interest to post a single comment on the AfterShot Pro pages, not even the tiniest of status updates or a simple "Hi, someone still cares about this product" - and Corel really wants us to believe that "they're working on something"?? I'm sure they are, but it is certainly not AfterShot Pro.

Either Corel really is that incompetent in product and customer management, or, more likely, they cut themselves a deal with Adobe to let their software die and make a ton of money through the backdoor. Either way, I'm very disappointed. As a linux user, ASP was the first time I ever paid for software - lesson learned...

that is indeed a very very pejorative signal. Bye ASP!
