Re: Colour Space Etc...
Those are color depth. Color space is just what combinations of RGB map to what actual colors. So 128,25,87 will map to a slightly different color in sRGB than in Adobe. With 8-bit color depth the maximum value for each of the three channels (RGB) is 255. Or 8-bits. 16-bits has a maximum value of 65535 per channel. So a whole heck of a lot more colors are possible inside each color space.
RAW images tend to be 16-bits in depth. So 16-bit is great for maintaining a lot of that quality from a RAW image. TIFF and PSPImage are formats that can be saved with 16-bit colors. 16-bit images are also loosely double the size of 8-bit images.
However, when giving out the images or posting online you'll want to save a copy decreased to 8-bit just because 16-bit still isn't that common.

Re: Colour Space Etc...
The best rule of thumb is to have everything the same. So sRGB in camera followed on by sRGB in your software. In reality and everyday use there is very little between the various colour modes.

Re: Colour Space Etc...
Colour management has never been one of PSPs strong points! I have it off.
