VS Pro x4 project video no sound

Post by draacco »

Hello everyone, I've been scouring the forums for a solution and I can't seem to find one. I see others have posted with the same issue sort of issue albeit no real answer to the problem has been given.
I have two machines one running windows 7 and one running windows 8.1. The windows 7 machine working fine but running on windows 8.1 for some reason the project audio will NOT play unless you click on sound mixer to display the wave form edit mode. The clip audio plays but the audio WILL NOT play in project mode. All video's are game video's or DMV aero desktop recording using fraps as the video recorder uncompressed I've even transfered files form my windows 7 machine that play fine in project mode to the windows 8.1 machine and the same issue, I've tried every file format and they are all the same. When I create a video file via share, the sound is fine and plays normally after creation in the preview window, but for some reason NO audio will play when previewing the video in project mode regardless of the file.

Running on Windows 8.1
VS Pro x4 14.3.0.5

Project template is default doesn't seem to matter, even if I change these settings video project sound will not play and is not muted. The compression and rendering is done at the end using Xvid MPEG-4 Codec, PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo and audio plays fine.

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

or

NTSC non-drop frame (30 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 320 x 240, 30 fps
Upper Field First
Uncompressed
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

I could list all the video's I have tested this on but I don't think that is the issue. Here is one sample.

There are quite a few topics from users who have all sorts of problems with video files created by Frapps

Do you have frapps on your Win 7 machine but not on your Win 8 machine - I ask because one suggestion to cure problems was to install frapps as that then installs the codecs which it uses and which then become available to VideoStudio

I've used fraps for all my recording since it first came out and have had no issues and yes it's on both my machines.

well, it can't be fraps when the programs own video and audio files that come packaged for use with VS pro x4 do the same thing. It's defiantly not fraps. No video files from any source or compression are working.

It appears that even though VS Pro X4 is supposed to be "fully" compatible with windows 8.1 it clearly isn't. I had to bite the bullet and upgrade to X6 just to edit my video's now.

Nice marketing ploy. It worked. I want a damn coupon... :?

If you had been reading any of the other recent posts, some people have received notification from Corel about getting an advance copy of VS X7 due to be released on 14 March. So if I were you, if you bought the upgrade to X6, I would go back to the Corel store and ask about getting X7 instead for the price you already paid...

FWIW, I have both X6 and now X7 on this computer running Win 8.1 (different from my Profile computer as I am not yet using this one as my main editor...) And both of those work fine with Win 8.1. I haven't even tried X4 with Win 7 let alone Win 8/8.1,

Well, I called Customer support and the sales guys + his supervisor tried to sell me an upgrade to X7 for 79.99 after I just upgraded to x6 x4 for $65, I really thought their math skills would be better considering the downloadable non-upgrade version of VS x7 is 99.99 and they expect me to pay $145. But due to the language barrier and the constant sales pressure being babbled at me I was not able to get my point across.

Just wish for once i could get a Sales rep or a customer service rep that speaks English as a first language on the phone. Life would be much easier.

As to x4, on win 7. Seems to work fine for me with the SP3 upgrade.
