I have experienced several instances where VideoStudio X6 crashes when an mp4 file is played.
Scenario:
- Download several mp4 files from the same source for editing and compilation.
- Load files to video track.
- One of the files loads but crashes X6 Pro when play is attempted. (This happened with X5 as well, but I haven't tested the following work-around.)
- Error box is presented. "The program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning. Please contact Corel Technical Support and send the dump file for analysis. C:\Users\..."
- Selecting OK on the box gives the "Corel VideoStudio Pro has stopped working" box, but selecting Close Program does not close X6.
- A second Corel VideoStudio Pro error box with "The program has encountered and unspecified error." opens in the background. You have to find this second one and select OK.
- Corel X6 will then close.
Playing the file alone, loading it onto the local drive instead of a mapped drive, and including it in the Media Manager window did not resolve the problem.
Offending MP4 file parameters (The other working files had similar parameters.):
Video
Video type H.264
Frame width 1280
Frame height 720
Data rate 1343 kbps
Total bit rate 1468 kbps
Frame rate 29.97 frames/second
Audio
Audio type MPEG AAC
Bit rate 126 kbps
Channels 16 bit stereo
Audio Sample rate 48 kHz
The Fix
- Load the MP4 file to the video track.
- Right click the track and select "Split Audio" (At this point, you can play the video, but it may crash if editing operations are attempted.)
- Create video file and compile as mp4 using default settings.
New MP4 file parameters:
Video
Video type H.264
Frame width 1280
Frame height 720
Data rate 5000 kbps
Total bit rate 1468
Frame rate 30 frames/second
Audio
Audio type MPEG AAC
Bit rate 126 kbps
Channels 16 bit stereo
Audio Sample rate 192 kHz
This new file can now be loaded and edited without crashing VideoStudio X6.

Re: An MP4, an X6 Crash, a Dump File Error, and the Fix
Thanks for that as it could help others with a similar problem.- Right click the track and select "Split Audio" (At this point, you can play the video, but it may crash if editing operations are attempted.)
- Create video file and compile as mp4 using default settings.
I quoted the above, though, because I was not clear on one point. When you split the audio did you save the audio as a discrete audio file, and insert that in the audio timeline when you did the re-render. Or did you just use it as it appeared after splitting in the audio timeline?
