Goodbye to MF 4 and Ulead

Post by Heri »

I ordered MF 4 Disc Creator on june, 11 june 2005 and still cant use MF 4. I have used lots of hours to prepare pictures for slideshows and making all the effects with MF 4 but at the end it all crashes.

I still cant understand how MF 4 can be for sale with all these bugs. I will do my best to tell people not to by MF 4. I will start in Digital Photography Review forum.

I have today recieved my Danish Magazine Digital Photo and they are giving guides how to use this great software MF 4 from Ulead. I will send them an email too, that they should give informations to all there readers not to by MF 4.

But going thru all the posts in this forum i can only see lots of problems with MF 4.

I will never by anything from Ulead Software again.

Why:
Release of bad software
Bad support
I paid for nothing that works
I gave Ulead USD 81,24 for nothing.
No refunds

I will end here and wish you all good luck with MF 4, when it sometimes will work. You have all been so helpfull to Ulead to test software that dont work and you paid for beta testing.

Goodbye MF 4 and Ulead

I am beginning to agree with you.

After spending over 20 hours trying to create a DVD, I have just about given up. I even made a long distance call, at my expense, to the support group, only to receive a recorded message that no support personnel were in today (Friday)! What support!!

Whenever I tried to burn a DVD, MF4 hung my system so solid that I could not even kill the program.. my only resource was to power down my CPU. After several attempts with the same results, I give up.

On Monday I am contacting Customer Service for a refund.

I have had MF2 - MF4 runing on 8 different systems over the years and have had no problem creating discs.

The trick is properly configuring the system for video work, which is not the way Windows comes out of the box.

Where are your working folders located? On C: or another HDD?

The latter is the better way and prevents out of memory crashes if/when the project contents, preview and rendered files exceed the space available. These can easily take up 8-10 gigs or more, depending on the sources format.

This can happen even faster if your installed memory is at the lower end of acceptable limits since the swapfile will also grow and help to crowd the HDD for space.

I dont have memory crashes it's MF 4 application crash. All other software on my pc works perfectly.

I use Photoshop, Smartdraw 7.2 - both these applications needs power and i have it on my pc working with no problems.

As Uleads announce on there homepage:

DVD MovieFactory 4 Disc Creator is the quick and easy way to make great DVD movies, music discs and write data on DVDs or CDs.

More form Ulead:

Your One-Stop CD & DVD Burning Solution Ulead® DVD MovieFactory 4 is everything you need for CD and DVD creation. Turn your videos and photos into high quality DVD movies. Burn data and music to CD or DVD in an instant. The Wizard workflow makes it simple. Choose from two versions: Disc Creator and Standard.

Do i have to be PC specialist to use MF 4?

I cant burn Audio CDs
I cant burn Data CDs
I cant Tweak to fit
I cant make a Picture Slideshow with audio

Crash, crash crash before even starting burning.

I have all the the power on my pc that MF 4 needs.

I think Ulead have great problem with MF 4.

I am having the exact same problem. Does anyone know of a work around or a fix for it. The first time i didn't save any of my edits and clips so i had to go around and redo them.

I click next after the preview of the DVD and it just sits there. I forced End Task will not do anything. I cannot shut dow, logoff, restart. I have to physically reach and hit the power/reset button.

Is there any info on this?

If you are making slide shows, why not try creating them with
Pro Show Gold http://www.photodex.com/

This will create an MPG file which you can then import into your Ulead Program(s).

while i personally use the trick to make an iso then burn, i can totally understand his dismay.

i dont think ive seen a product with so many bugs in, which is a real shame. ive been using dvd mf since version 2 and im a big fan of the line, its cheap and usually does a great job.

if ulead could iron out the bugs, they would have a great product again and its not fair to try and pin it on the users machine...

You guys are unreal, there are literally 1000nds of people out there using this software with nothing like the problems you are facing and you blame the software for being buggy? How can it be a program bug if it works on so many systems?
You give no indication on what the problems are, it just crashes, great. Good luck in your future endeavours, you will need it.

MF4 starts to burn then just stops doing anything. after 2 hrs+the total progress is 1% and the detaile prog on step 1 of 3 is 24%. i am using 4.0, on a 2.6 gig system using a hdd with 26gig avail to burn a dvd les than 1hr long. I have tried several times with the same result, :?: :?:

no, your the unreal one, there are plenty of people with all kinds of machines who have had burning issues, the your dead issue, the "missing" audio DVD tracks and many more.

we give no indication? read all the threads we have posted? no, didnt think so...

if your system works fine, good for you, but for many others it doesnt, as the countless threads highlight....

jeez, what an attitude problem...

Woulnt you be frustrated if your software didntt work. The strange thing is that Ulead knows about the problem, but nothing happens. They have also made a post in this forum about that they know about the MF 4 problems.

I have contacted Ulead technical support 4 times to inform them about all bugs i have with MF 4.

They dont seem to bee interested and i also asked for a solution or and alternativ what to do. I ordered and upgrade version. They could have offered me a try to download it again og try a full version to see if its upgrade version there is the problem.

I have also tried to download the MF 4 trial version but my trial period is over.

So i feel i got a very bad support from Ulead. Sad to say that im not the lucky user of MF 4.

Come on guys, get real! As Heinz-OZ says, it works for many thousands of people around the world, including me (except that I do burn to ISO then use Nero to burn to DVD -its actually quicker). If we all had a standard platform, then there would be reason to complain, but there are a million versions of PCs out there - no standard platform! As Mr Chien says, "PC not perfect" or some such thing. I would start by looking inward not spewing outwards, to find the source of your problems.

What is technical support for? when you get no help.

Last change
But i will in the next days try to make a fresh install of MF 4 Upgrade on two other pc's. If there still is problems - what to do then? Ulead Technical support dont give any suggestions or interrest to solve the problems.

Ok, so a couple of you imply that the problem is with our configurations. This might be accepted IF Ulead offered and could help resolve the problem through 'our configuration', but that's where the problem is----they don't. Our problems just go on deaf ears.

Hi all,

As I know Ulead is working on the 2nd update pack of Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4, which can make DMF4 much more stable and perform better, so please be patient.

The update pack will be released around mid August.

By the way, for the guys who sometimes got DMF4 crashed, please provide more information so people can help you to identify the problem, such as Windows version, any video/audio souftwares installed in the system, burner model and media brand. If you can provide the CODEC list in your system would be great.

As Terry said before, I would suggest to set up a PC only for video editing and DVD authoring and not to install too many softwares in the system (especially some softwares running in the background), which will ellimiate many crash problems.

Hope this helps.
