Pro X6 Windows 8.1 probs

Post by Freemanart »

Good morning. Help if you can please.
I have PaintShop ProX6 on Win 8 and it has updated to 8.1 overnight.
I now have an error message when trying to access Corel paint Shop "Corel paint shop pro 6x failed to start because its side-by-side-configuration is incorrect etc"

I thus removed Paint shop, reloaded it afresh and restarted the computer.
Didn't work.
Downloaded the 8.1 compatibility pack from Corel for X6 and still the program will not open and has the same error.
I am no buff and could not even get the info about Motherboards, graphic cards and capacities when registering, its so complicated all I got from the searches were pages and pages and pages of code/ is there a simple way to fix this?

FWIW, I had no problem with the 64 bit PSPX6 when I upgraded to 8.1. Sounds like something your computer is off kilter.

It,s a brand spanking new Sony VAIO. The Corel program worked fine in 8 over the past 2 weeks since I bought it, with 8.1 it stopped this am with the message I posted.
Even our computer repair shop cant find the fix today

I have only just recently installed Win 8.1 Pro on a virgin hard disk i.e. no previous installation of Win 8. I then installed PSP X6 in both 64 and 32 bit versions. Both function normally, so pretty clearly it's not a Win 8.1 thingie...

It's obviously the result of the update, a change was made that rendered something else unusable. Many have no issues with 8.1, while others have suffered nightmares from the update.

My suggestion would be contact Corel support. If you bought PSPX6 within the last 90 days it should still be under warranty. If not, it'll cost money but you can still get a hold of them.

If you bought PSPX6 within the last 90 days
I suspect you will find that Corel have indefensibly reduced that period now to 30 days for all products... This is part of the message I received from them two weeks ago after a new install:
Dear Corel Customer,

Thank you for your purchase and welcome to the Corel family! As a valued customer, you’re eligible for one-time FREE installation or activation support that must be used online within the next 30 days. If necessary, a technical expert will schedule a call-back to further assist you.

I am on a MSI Laptop and Windows 8.1. My Corel Pro X6 was newly installed (March 16) and worked without problem until a couple days ago, it suddenly refuse to load. Both 64 and 32 bit versions. I was able to get it to run today by right click over the 64 bit shortcut and select "troubleshoot compatibility" and it resoved itselt by running the program in windows 8 mode (not 8.1). I was on 8.1 originally but it seems a recent update did screw things up!!!...

Put me down as another one on a brand new Viao laptop. Got the side-by-side error on Win 8. Get it now in Win 8.1. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Did the SP2 update. Same issue. Did the C+ updates and still the same issue. And this was a fresh Win 8 install.

Thankfully I have a couple days left on their BS shortened 30 day warranty so I submitted my problem. We'll see what happens. Going to install one of the older versions and see what happens.

Lightroom with a Canon wireless color printer is only $75 at BuyDig today. Going to pick that up too and sell the printer so I get a cheap copy of LR. That should at least handle some things for now. This is my fourth upgrade of PSP, and it's been nothing but a headache. I hope I can get my money back if they can't fix it.

Edit/Update. Tried the X7 and trial and it loads with no issues, so this is CLEARLY an X6 problem. If I feel inclined, I'll load up my X5 and see if that works to further confirm this is a Corel issue.

What the hell? My post got deleted.

I've owned three versions of PSP and X6 fails to load with the side by side issue on my Vaio Flip running Win8 then 8.1. I've done the C++ updates. I've done the SP2 update. I've run it in compatibility mode for win 7 and win 8. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. No dice. It's a clean install of Win 8 and recently updated to 8.1.

Thankfully I'm just a couple days away from the pitiful 30 days of support which is making me rethink this and future corel purchases. I submitted my ticket so we'll see.

I also installed the trial version of X7 and have had zero issues. So I don't see this being an issue on my end.

I got an email that said my first post was approved, and I swore I did see it in the thread. If I got it wrong, I'm the one that should apologize. :) I made mention of going to Lightroom if this doesn't pan out. Having been a PSP user since the beginning, I'm not a fan of their new 30 day support window, and I'm not too keen on seeing other versions of the same program run on my computer when the one I purchased isn't. But we'll see how they handle this especially because I'll be over the 30 day window by the time this actually gets taken care of.

I'm having similar issues with pspx6 after an update from win8 to 8.1. I am on an hp about 9 months old. I have done everything I can find on the net... I'm well beyond the psp support window. If someone gets good info, I'll keep my eye on the thread.
