I recently purchased a Sony Handycam HDR-CX220E and made a few trial recordings. When trying to capture the recordings in Videostudio Pro X3 the following message appears: "Either no video capture driver is installed in this system or no device is connected."
The camera is definitely connected so I seem to need a video capture driver for this camera. Where do I go to get one ?

Hi
The capture process is required for capturing tape based video.
Your camera records to SD memory cards, the video is transferred to the PC in the same way as you would for an image camera.
Connect to PC via USB, the camera should be available from Start - Computer showing as a removable drive SD card.
Copy and Paste the video files to your pc, create a new folder for the files.
If there are a series of folders AVCHD etc look for the Stream folder, that contains the video files.
Once you have the files on the pc import to Video Studio timeline.
Right click timeline and choose import Video, browse for the files.
Otherwise your camera may have some software that could be used to transfer the files to the pc

You do not need a driver for that camera - you do not "capture" in the old fashioned way.
Plug your camera to your PC using a USB lead - open Windows Explorer and you should see your camera as an external drive.
Open up the drive and go down the folders in there until you can see a "stream" folder - then drag and drop (or copy and paste) the files in there to a suitable folder on your hard drive.
Now open VideoStudio - perhaps add a new library pane with a name specific to your project - use the "Import Media" icon in the library to browse to and select all the files you have just transferred.
now edit as normal

Re: driver for Sony HDR-CX220E
I have connected the camera to the computer, copied all the files to a suitable folder tried to import into Videostudio. In the import step all clips are showing but the "start import" button is greyed out. I have also tried to import directly from the SDHC card in the SD card slot in the computer. Same result. The file extensions are MTS. Could there be a compatibility problem?

Are you trying to "import" into the Videostudio library or into the timeline? Where do you see a "start import" button". You say you copied the files from your camera to your computer. Once you have done that there is no further "Import" required. From now on it is a simple process of inserting the files into the timeline or the library

The simplest way is to insert the mouse pointer in either the timeline or library window and select "Insert Video" or words to that effect used in X3... Then simply browse to the folder where your .mts files are stored and select the ones you want, then press OK. Their thumbnail(s) should then appear in either the timeline or library window.

Re: driver for Sony HDR-CX220E
My problem is I read very fast but not very accurately. Right click on the time line and select "insert video" works fine. Thank you very much for your help.
