Corel Video Utimate x5
Hi KEN -Got your instructions on login in and it works fine THANKS.
My problem is that Corel Video X5 is continually FREEZING the only way out is to manually shut down the computer. This has been a problem for a long time but has gotten so bad that I cannot continue without it shutting down very 5 to 10 minutes.
I have reviewed similar problems but cannot understand or solve the issue.
I am using windows 7 home premium, explorer and find that Studiox5 is not compatible with windows 7. and it says use Windows XP sp2. which it has to be set at ??? Also I find that Publisher Certificate was from 13/11/2010 to 13/11/ 2023
can any of this be a problem?
Corel X5 just crashes but I can still use Internet Explorer(video studio stays frozen)
I am trying to make a photo slideshow but it just won't stay running .
Computer repair center say computer well equipped but say the program is at fault .
CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY HELP as I love what the program can do when things go right.

Re: Corel Video Utimate x5
First off, X5 is defitely compatible with Win 7, so you can rule that one out. I -- and I am sure many other users -- have it installed and working well on Win 7. And with no setting of VS to XP compatibility mode.
Have you tried the usual thing of uninstalling, including all your personal settings, and reinstalling from scratch?

Re: Corel Video Utimate x5
Ken I am scared to try things that might make me loss all the work that I have put into this last slideshow (this has happened to many times)
I have reinstalled the original purchased program 4 times ,searched for answers and am willing to try anything that will correct the FREEZE problem.
I worked with you on the problem of( NOT BEING ABLE TO BURN TO DISC). I have since found out that although my DVD BURNER WAS relatively new it was the cause of the problem . I guess that thread should be ended (not sure how).
The freezing problem now is so bad that I cannot continue.
Things that I have tried:
Ran MICROSOFT trouble shooting test . It always tells me that COREL VIDEO STUDIO PRO X5 IS NOT COMPATIBLE! It does a workaround fix and states it has allowed WINXPSP2 to control it (why I don't know).
checked for computer overheating (not a problem).
checked for driver up dates and any Corel updates.
checked with computer tech to ensure enough memory and also advised I have lots of space available.
Plus read everything related to my problem that I can find all to no avail. Luckily when I do a manual shut down I can retrieve my work and work for a few (2 TO 8 ) minutes .
It is easy for the technician to say its the program ,but other people seem to be able to use it. Why not me??
I am not real technical. I suppose I could try an other program ,but for financial and experience I would like to work with this one. ANY suggestions would be appreciated bendgee.

Hi Bendgee
Can you give us some details of the content of your projects.
You mention a slide show, I assume you are using images, but are you using an video clips.
From the timeline--Please right click all clip types and select properties, what are they?
Jpeg images having Exif details applied from camera to the files have caused problems for some users. Do you know if the camera is set to apply such information?
When you Share Create Video File –what options are you now choosing?
Are you able to provide sample images for us to test on our systems.
Quicktime Player
Do you have this player installed on your pc, if no then please install QuickTime.

Re: Corel Video Utimate x5
Lata What I am trying to do is take Photos from my library install them in Corel Video Studio x5 ,place them in an orderly run and add transitions between clips.
When I have the photos completed I add an introduction to the front of slideshow and background music and voice over . I have tried to mix in separate videos with this but have not been to successful at this.
MY problem that I am having is trying to keep the program running
any where in the buildup stage it just keeps FREEZING and has to be manually shut down (thankfully when I go back I can retrieve it).
I like what this program can do but what is causing it to continually freezing ?
I wish it would work ,People keep telling me the program is no good. financially I can not keep easting money
hoping someone can tell me what to do.

Re: Corel Video Utimate x5
What is the format of the pictures -- jpeg, png or something else? If jpegs, have a look at what lata mentioned above about exif data.
What are your project properties? It should not make a difference, but if you change them from the default Upper Field First to Frame Based, that should work better with a slideshow.

Re: Corel Video Utimate x5
MS Internet Explorer has nothing to do with your problem. Why would you expect it to stop working?
What happens if you create the project without any videos? Does it still freeze? If not then that would indicate some problem with the video clips.
If it frezzes while adding the photos then we have to look at the photo properties. How large are they (file size and also dimensions). I have add some problems (with other video programs) when I add photo images that had very high dimensions

Hi bendgee
Your reply to me did not mention the type of images as Jpeg.
Can you check the Exif details of the images, if you are unsure how to do that please ask.?
I assume the images are from your camera is this correct?
Can you e-mail an image so we can check the details?
1 / Did you set the camera to record place or time that the image was taken?
Background music…………
2 / Are you using MP3 audio, if so then convert the audio to Wav
MP3 can cause problems.
3 / QuickTime Player, do you have this player installed on your PC
It does seem a long and on-going problem for you.
Windows Auto Updates
4 / check that your pc is up to date?
To add to canuck’s reply
5 / try making a slide show using only images, does that work ok?

Re: Corel Video Utimate x5
Ken- Lata Here is bendgee the trouble maker it seems .
In reply to last contact this is what I have found and will print it for your evaluation.
First of all I now found out that MY LIBRARY is corrupt a test tells me --- WHAT PART I DON'T KNOW... probably my major fault.
I am not using a fancy camera (some of my old slideshows were with a Kodak 643 and later now with my Sony DSC-W560 almost always taking still photos but can also record video --both in mp-4 type. My background music is in WAV format.
I do have QuickTime player installed on my computer.
MY computer has all the updates available and when tested says no problems found.
I have in the past made slideshows with straight Photos or straight video having problems with some and not others.
I checked a lot of my photos --EXIF VERSION -- Old Kodak photos are EXIF VERSION 0221 image type JPEG.
Sony camera Photos are EXIF VERSION ...0230 image type JPEG.
I am not sure how to send a video but I sure would if I knew how.
I used to make slideshows and burn them to discs on A PINNICALE program which got out dated .I thought that to really enjoy this hobby I would start out with COREL PAINTSHOP X4 WHICH I PURCHASED and later purchased VIDEO STUDIO X4 and X5
SEE NEXT MESSAGE PLEASE.

TO Ken and Lata I don't know if you if you want to continue to assist me with my problem because it appears my computer is the fault.
I guess somehow I have to find and clean my library files ( which ones I don't know ) or take it to someone how will help me.
Computer people keep telling me your computer is not the problem its the program.
I am a Senior and REALLY enjoyed when I could do this.
I AM WILLING TO TRY ANY FIX THAT YOU WOULD RECOMMEND if you have the time.
thank- you --- Sincerely Bendgee

Bendgee, did you try to create a slideshow without any videos, transitions, effects, audio? We are trying to determine if your problems are related to your photos or to something else.
I don't understand what you mean by "My Library" is corrupt. What test tells you it is correct? Which library are you talking about?
From where did you import the photos?

Re: Corel Video Utimate x5
Canuck ; I take photos and install them in my Picture library when I want to make a slideshow I go to Corel Video Studio x5 . I then open ,Set up a beginning ,select media ,go to the picture library and import the picture files put them on the timeline and story book where I can arrange their order.
bendgee
I Will try to create a short slideshow and somehow send it.
I have used troubleshooting in windows 7 for (media library corrupt) audio checks,to check, program compatibility checks etc. searching for answers.
