Image Transparent Problems

Post by Harribags »

:D Hi, I'm new to this site and hope someone can help me, before I through my pc through the window.

When I paste a copied image into a new image with a transparent backgroung and remove the white areas using the object magic eraser tool and then save the file, it won't allow me to save this in any format.

Could someone please tell me how to create a transparent image and save it either as a gif or jpeg so that I can then import it into dreamweaver.

I am using Ulead version 7, thanks

Did you do a Select All, Merge All Layers, before trying to save your final composite image? Try saving in the PSD file format.

To create a Transparent background when creating a new image: select File, New Image, Canvas, check Transparent, click OK, you have a new image with a transparent background.

Select your other image, then drag and drop into the new transparent image.

:) Thanks for your reply.

When I click merge all, I get another white background. I have tried saving in all different formats but get the following error message.

Saving to a lossy file may cause changes to image data. These changes will not reflect in the image until you re-open it.

I'm really at a loss as to what to do.

When you merge a transparent and a non-transparent image the final merge always contains a non-transparent background, default color.

Create your multi-object image, use properties to lock them in place, if necessary. Do not merge layers and then save them, in one of the following file formats:

A multi-layered GIF or PSD format.
Dreamweaver will import either of these formats while retaining the transparent background.

Are you using the Image Optimizer to save your files? If not, you will most likely NOT get a transparent background. The fact that you got that message leads me to believe you're just doing File\Save or File\SaveAs.

You might want to look at this tutorial which will show you how to save a transparent .gif file:
