You said up near the top of this thread:
Is there any way to get the full picture in the are area or is this the way this program handles viewing photos in the timeline?
Now you say in addition:
it reduced the size of the timeline but I'm still getting the repeating of the thumbnail
I am beginning to wonder if you would be more comfortable in Storyboard view -- which uses just one static image for a whole clip (and surrounded by black!!) -- rather than the repeated thumbnails in the Timeline view you are in. (They are not supposed to be repeated thumbnails but representations of individual frames within the video. You can in fact stretch out the timeline so that it shows each and every individual frame in the video.) If you want to use Storyboard View, have a look at my attached image and click on the icon indicated by the red arrow. (The icon to its right will return you to Timeline View.)

I'm actually more comfortable with the timeline rather than storyboard. I'm a former user of Pinnacle Studio since Studio 8 and am just trying to get the photo to show as Ron was able to above in his timeline. Help! :-) Actually, I should clarify, Ron was able to get what I want except I'd prefer not to have the filename showing...just the thumbnail top to bottom of the clip and black area around (no filename). Maybe that's the closest I'm going to get with this program is to have the filename showing as well.

The last image you posted of the bag clearly shows that your layout is NOT the standard default - when I said to you earlier "press F7" did you do so with VideoStudio open - are you sure your function keys are working - on my multi-use keyboard I can disable the function keys and allocate them to another task - please press F6 - does the "Preference" dialogue Window open - while it's open change that "Clip display mode" dropdown to Thumbnail only that should remove the filename from your clip.

If pressing F7 still does not work for you then please try again the procedure Ron described earlier - move you cursor into the black line between the timeline and the preview window - where it it will change to a double line - SEE IMAGE BELOW - when it does that press the left mouse key and while holding it down push upwards - this will resize you preview window and bring all of the timeline up

Pressing the quick key F7 on the keyboard should set the workstation to its default layout.

From the menu Settings -- Layout Settings -- Switch to..... should also do the trick.

Or

Press F6 for Preferences (Settings -- Preferences)
Choose the UI Layout tab and select the Default radio button

I assumed you tried all options above.

Can you try running the program by right clicking the desktop icon and Run as Administrator
then try to reset the layout.

The attachment resize.png is no longer available
Yes, the layout was not the standard default because I quoted what Ron suggested I try...which by resizing the timeline caused it to expand the above panels taking it out of the standard default. I did this to show the result of that request. I did press F7 afterward and it put the panels back to the standard default. When I was asked originally at the beginning of the topic to press F7 where I indicated nothing happened was because I had not resized or moved anything...so nothing happened. The procedure you described for resizing when the lines show I also accomplished which caused the preview window to lengthen as I reduced the size of the timeline pane. See attached images where F7 was pressed then reducing the timeline was reduced and it's effect on the preview window. In either case, the thumbnail is not showing how I would like as a single image with black space next to it. Maybe this isn't possible with the program and the best I can do to that request is with the filename by the side. Pic attached.

Yes, I have done everything that has been suggested. I also tried your suggestion to run as administrator and produced the same result. Thank you for your suggestion. Kind of a mystery or maybe what I'm asking isn't possible? Can someone post a picture of the thumbnail within the clip filling in the clip area top to bottom with black space to the right of the thumbnail (no black under the thumbnail and no filename to the right..just black to the right)

Hi

Someone just turned the light on…………

I think I have missed the point here, I was confused with the original images showing the black section at the bottom being extended.

There is always a black border showing on the bottom of the clips in the timeline.
The area is used when activating the Sound Mixer, then the black area displays the audios wave form, the clip showing its name.
Same for the overlay tracks.

I must admit it does seem a waste of space, I guess I have just got used to that layout.
