Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac
First time user of this software and having problems getting sound when I connect my JVC GR-DVL-355 video camera to my MAC via the USB port. Picture is there but no sound. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
and welcome to the forums
Your camcorder appears to be a mini DV type and as such should be connected to the pc via Firewire (IEEE 1394 aka I link)
I don’t use Mac so don’t know if you have firewire connections.
The video is transferred to the pc as DV-Avi, (13 Gb per hour) what you have on the camera is what you get on the pc, no re-coding during capture. It should capture the audio as part of the video stream.
If you are using S-Video then a separate cable should be used for audio, S-Video does not capture audio.
I would think USB connection may work but is provided for image capture not video.
Select the Options Cogwheel and Video Properties, the panel may allow you to choose an audio input, maybe USB audio is available??
But as I say you should use Firewire.
How are you connecting the camera?

Re: Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac
I have a very similar device (but on Windows) and it works very well when connected by USB and using 3 phonos to carry sound and video from camcorder to device - you do realise though that you can only capture as mpeg with those devices - because as it says in it's name it is meant to transfer VHS to DVD and you only need mpeg-2 for that.
but as Trevor has said if you are using an s-video able you need an additional cable for sound onto your PC - but for best results all round use the firewire (i-link) connection on your camera and mac for optimum results.

The camera is connected with the Red/White and yellow leads via the supplied "video capture USB device into the back of my MAC. I only have USB and thunderbolt connectivity. Excuse my ignorance but fire wires are described 6 and 4 pin, which would I use.lata wrote:Hi

Shouldn't you be asking your question in the Roxio forums? Here is the link: http://forums.support.roxio.com/forum/2 ... d-for-mac/

Hi
Firewire 4 pin is usually the terminal on the camcorder
The 6 pin being on the PC
So you need a cable 4 to 6 pin
Certainly you are best transferring the video using Firewire to DV format as there is no recoding during transfer, you capture the quality as recorded.

Many thanks. Could not find this forum from the link originally provided. I found the answer which is the adaptor needs to be plugged in after you launch the software which is not in the instructions.canuck wrote:Jezzer159 wrote:
