Hi,
I just purchased Paintshop pro x5. I was trying to teach myself how to use the object removal tool. Everything went well, except after I was finished, I could not turn the tool off. In my much older version of Jasc paintshop pro, I could turn off specific tools by pressing alt D. This didin't work with x5. I tried picking other tools, but that didn't help either. How do you turn off the object removal tool so that it doesn't continue to show the flashing dotted line around the object you've just removed?

Re: Object removal tool
The Object Removal tool uses basic selections. So the tool itself isn't active, it's the selection that is.
To deselect something on the image just hit Ctrl + D. Or go to the selections menu and choose "Deselect"

Thank you for your help. Control D didn't work. My computer makes a ding noise telling me that command doesn't work. However, going to the selection menu and choosing "Select none" did work. Thanks again.
Re: Object removal tool
I forgot to ask another question about Paintshop pro x5. When I use, for example, the smart carver. I noticed there is a delay when using the green and red brushes. When I paint over the objects I want to keep or get rid of, I have to briefly wait until it shows the colors. I have 6GB of ram and an i5 processor. So I really don't understand why there is this delay.

X5 is a 32-bit program, all 32-bit programs are limited to 2-3GB of RAM. So beyond that any extra is not being utilized by the program. X6 was the first version of PSP to offer a 64-bit version of the program. That one will make good use of your RAM.
And i5 is nice but it doesn't tell us the speed. However, even a fast processor isn't guaranteed to speed up every function. The function has to make proper use of the multiple cores for them to be truly effective.
Even with a monstrously fast rig, if the software isn't optimized to take advantage of it...it won't.
Still your image would have to be rather large to be causing this kind of slow-down. How large is your image? Are you zoomed way out? Or are you zoomed way in? Does the zoom make a difference at all with the speed.
