In advance of the discontinuation of support for XP in April, I've upgraded my HTPC to Win 7 Pro SP1 32-bit. Of course I had to install WinDVD. I downloaded the install from the link in my purchase email and install w/o any hiccups. Try it with a few discs to see how the system handles Win 7 and all is fine. I then click "i" in WinDVD to check for an update and am promptly taken to a page offering WinDVD Pro 11 SP3. I download it and attempt to install and the message "You must install WINDVD11 before you install this component" and am offered an OK button which exits the installer.
Anti-Virus software is off, so it's not that.
Anyone have any ideas?
BTW, Corel's tech support sucks. I shouldn't have to pay for help with their faulty installer. This is a clean install of Win 7 with only a handful of programs installed; nothing besides the AV software would interfere with an install. Corel shouldn't require me to cough up $15 to get this solved.

Re: WinDVD Pro 11 SP3 install problems
Check your versions before updating. My experience with Corel is that the update system is broken. If you downloaded the install from the website you probably already have SP3 and the update is just plain wrong. So double check build numbers since it may not actually say SP3.

Re: WinDVD Pro 11 SP3 install problems
The version number string doesn't include "SP3."

If you only just bought the program, then you have 30 days free service from Corel with an install problem. (And by the way, none of us here work for Corel... This is a user to user web board.)

Re: WinDVD Pro 11 SP3 install problems
Hi
The serial /version numbers do not readily identify that the service pack has been installed, although it will be slightly different to the original number, unfortunately I do not know what format that takes.
I am however intending to purchase Win DVD Pro 11, sometime?
SP 3 seems to be associated with windows 8 so maybe you do not need that particular service pack.
Are you having problems running the program?

Hi
The update SP3 is a little different to other service packs I have used in that it appears to be large enough to be the actual program. Service packs are usually a few Kb
The SP is called WinDVD_11.6_Pro.exe at 127Mb
The original Win DVD Pro 11 is some 224 Mb
That does not really help as I also get the same error message.
“You must install WINDVD11 before installing this component”
And yes like you I have Pro11 installed
I’ll take Kens advice and try Corel Support

Hi Guys
I contacted Corel Support and was told the download version already contains SP3

Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support.
Thank you for providing the version number, your WinDVD Pro 11 is already updated to SP3. Trying to reinstall the same update will result in the error that you've encountered.
Usually, download versions already have the updates applied upon installation.
Kindly let me know if you have further concerns on this matter.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.

My concern is that the program when doing an update check reports that an update is required and gives a link to download that update. (the new SP3)
The user then tries to install the update which subsequently fails.
That causes concern for the user who then raises the question on the forum and to yourselves--Corel Support--
Clearly the check update procedure is not working correctly
Maybe the download info should indicate that the SP3 is already applied?
Thankyou for the clarification

Re: WinDVD Pro 11 SP3 install problems
I have the same issue. The "update" system for WinDVD is completely broken. All it does is take you to the Corel website, and the version numbers don't match (not even remotely). The update says that "WinDVD 11 Pro Service Pack 3" is available, and my version number is 11.6.1.4 LOGID300981. How do I know if the service pack is installed?
I haven't seen an update system this bad since the 90s. The developer responsible for this system is lazy and should be fired, plain and simple. It makes Corel look REALLY bad...

Re: WinDVD Pro 11 SP3 install problems
Hi Guys
I had other issues in using Win DVD after installing SP3, I was unable to play Bluray Folders.
After a few replies I finally received this comment.:
If WinDVD Pro 11 works well otherwise, I would recommend not installing SP3 for the moment. Unless you need to play very new Blu-ray titles, or you are running Windows 8.1, SP3 isn't necessary.
Yours sincerely

Your serial number indicates that SP3 has been installed.
My serial number is Win DVD 11.0.0.342 no patches.
If you are having issues with the program I would advise that you uninstall and re-install without the SP3
Corel programs in general do have an issue with all patches for all products in that trying to install a patch twice does cause an error or a warning notice, which indecently does not make sense, usually stating that the program cannot be identified or something like that, a wording of “already installed would be more appropriate”
You are correct that identifying that service packs have been installed is difficult, simply adding SP3 to the number should be easy and work fine to id the product updates?
Hope that helps.

Re: WinDVD Pro 11 SP3 install problems
Any sub-version of WinDVD 11 is unable to play Blu-ray (BDMV) folders. This is the main drawback of WinDVD 11.lata wrote:Hi Guys
