Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
I suggest you do a DVD project from the rendered files but do not burn to a DVD but burn to a image file or the folder set. You can then use a software player (I use the VLC player from www.videolan.org) to play the image file or folder set.
How long in time are your projects? Are trying to create a standard DVD or a AVCHD DVD?

What do you mean by nesting and how would I know if they're nested?
Your post is titled Importing multiple projects to the timeline that is nesting.
If you add a vsp to the timeline it will display as a single clip just like any other video clip, but there can be problems in nesting if the VSP added is then subsequently edit or its contents changed.
The “file format mismatch” error you saw could indicate a nesting problem.
Because the nesting process works it could be easily done in error.
It is possible that you have not nested the project but worth checking out
How do you tell if a VSP is nested……….
well view all clips in the timeline to see if any are VSP,
But first try adding/inserting them to the library, if ok then no nesting, if you receive an error then suspect nesting, or a corrupt file within that project.
Some uses do use the nesting process but have complained about quality.
Rendering a project, you say “ I used the original files and chose 'same as first video clip' when rendering”
What are the properties of the original files, if they are Mpeg2 Compliant DVD types then it will be ok if not then you will be rendering again in the burner module, this duplicate rendering may cause quality issues.
Can you tell us what the properties are for the original video files.
Right click a clip and choose properties, what are they.
You can copy the window to make a Jpeg image to attach to your post.

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Hi John
Thanks for that info, but we need a little more, the properties you show are from Windows Explorer, I was asking for properties from within Video Studio, sorry if I did not make that clear.
From Video Studio right click a clip in the timeline / library and choose properties.
You say that converting to Same as First Video Clip is successful with good quality.
It’s the conversion to standard DVD that’s causing the stuttering.
The stuttering may be caused by the change in frame rate or the interlacing, So we need the correct properties of the original video files.
Standard Definition will use 25fps, and by default will use Upper Field the frame size will be 720 x 576
If you compare those with your original you will see what changes have to be made, all will impact on quality.
Do you need to create a Standard DVD disc, ?
Do you own a Bluray DVD Player?

If you want to burn a standard DVD then of course you cannot use "same propertiesas initial clip" since that is HD according to the properties you show.john chapple wrote:Ah, sorry, try again.....timeline properties. I want to burn a standard dvd

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Hi John
The properties you show are identical to the video created by my Panasonic camera.
I do not have a problem using these types.
As Video Studio failed on start, that should rule out the projects, well non will be open, unless Video Studio is trying to recover one on start?
Reset Library……..
Can you reset the library, if you wish create a copy first by using the export option.
How
Go to Settings – Library Manager – Export Library
Then Settings – Library Manager Reset Library.
Your library will reset to “as installed”
Reset the program
Go to :-
C:\Users\Trevor\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro
Rename the 14.0 folder to 14.0copy
Restart Video Studio

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Hi Trevor,
Thanks for that. Still doesn't render properly, file plays for a while then stops just like the others. I have recently installed windows 7, could that be part of the trouble? I did have this trouble before with vista though, and have re-installed vs x4 since installing 7. I'm beginning to wonder if my copy of vs x4 is corrupt.

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Hi Trevor.
Reporting back as promised.
All patches now loaded, have rendered four projects. one rendered perfectly the other three still have the annoying stuttering, it,s not quite as noticeable but still obviously there when compared to the original. I tried burning dvds and the problem persists, whether i use the project files or rendered files, rendered files weren't perfect to start with though. Would it make any difference if I changed the program to ntsc as this has a higher frame rate. It's almost as though it's skipping fractions of a frame, or not quite fast enough............God knows!
I just burnt one of the 'Problem' projects 9mins 42sec long, straight to dvd and it plays perfectly. all i need now is to work out how to get 6 projects put together to do the same. Is there a solution?
thanks
John

Problem Solved. re-loaded x4 pro and set it to ntsc, no more juddering. looks like the pal setting is to be avoided! for me at least.

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
It's good to see you have managed a work-around. However the PAL/NTSC thing is really a thing of the past, especially when dealing with HD video, or video that is to be viewed on a PC. It's always best to try and match your final video file frame rate with that of video being used in your project.john chapple wrote:Problem Solved. re-loaded x4 pro and set it to ntsc, no more juddering. looks like the pal setting is to be avoided! for me at least.
Thanks for all your help
Your PAL video files were recorded at 25fps, and NTSC is 29.97fps. So using the NTSC default, VS would add 4.97fps.

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Hi John
It’s a little strange that you are having these problems especially as your video files use Pal standards, so you should set the project properties to Pal and that is 25 fps.
Ron is correct in that full HD uses the same frame dimensions for Pal as Ntsc, but the frame rate is different. 25 to 29.97, so PaL and Ntsc will never be a thing of the past, unless the industry reverts to using 25fps for all video.
Why things improve setting to NTSC with your video using 25 fps is a mystery, at least I don’t understand that?
