Hi .
I vs x4 pro is there any way of importing/inserting several projects to to the timeline or do i have to render each one first and then import the resulting files?
Thanks

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
You can insert .vsp files directly into the timeline - when you choose "Insert Video" and the browse window opens then just browse to and select the .vsp files instead of a video.
Two points you should be aware of
The whole project will appear as one continuous block and you will need to cut it if you want to make changes to any part of it.
Many users have had problems if they cut a .vsp and insert another vsp into the middle of it (often referred to as "nesting") - for some reason VideoStudio is not always happy with that arrangement.

Hi, I've just tried that and a window pops up saying unable to open file......file format mismatch?

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Were the project files created in X4 - and never even opened in X5 or X6 ?

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Hi John
Regarding the original VSP project files.
How many are they?
Do they all open in their own right.
You can view all clips within the timeline without any re-link problems and none of the clips used in the timeline are VSP types, that is the original projects have not been nested.
Check each project
If your original VSP have already been nested then you will not be able to add to another project.
I don’t use nesting, I prefer to render the projects to a new video file.
There are far to many pit falls when nesting, especially if done by mistake.........

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Hi Lata,
There's two projects I'm trying to put together, both play when I 'open project' them individually, they load onto the timeline as normal with no problems. the reason I thought this may be a better way of rendering them is because when I try to render them separately the resulting file plays for a few seconds and then stops and video studio stops working. They also do exactly the same on windows media player. The files seem to be corrupted, I have rendered these projects five times and they all stop playing at varying times during playback. Bearing in mind both project are 25 mins plus, they take an age to render only to be useless in the end.
I'm trying to make a dvd and have used this method before with no problems, but over the last couple of months this problem has persisted and as you can imagine I'm not a happy bunny!
best regards
john

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
I would think that that if the individual projects don't render properly to a video file then they also will not work when you add them as vsp projects.
It seems that there is a problem with your project that is causing the problem. Can post some information on your project such as what resources (photos, videos, audio, etc)?

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
The projects are made up of avchd video, I sometimes split the audio and change it in order to get rid of unwanted wind noise or chit-chat I don't want and also add titles to various sections but that's about it. I sometimes add music mp3 or wav files but haven't on the projects in question. The projects aren't that complicated.
Last year I made a dvd with music and narration and changed a lot of the original audio. It rendered with no problems. Now when I want to do the same thing it doesn't want to work............Strange!!!!
Should I up-grade to VS x6 ultimate or will I waste my money?

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
I would not give up on X4 so quick - after all you say it worked before. Did it work with AVCHD video before?
You could simply render an AVCHD video to a file without any edits, etc and see if that works.

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Hi John
Sorry for the delay but a trip over the weekend to Iceland………….
Did you try rendering the original video files, no edits, as mentioned by Canuck in an earlier post.
If that is successful then we can suspect something within the edits?
You say it used to work in the past, so what has changed to cause the problem?
Why do you split audio to get rid or unwanted noise, why not simply cut the section and mute?
MP3 audio can cause problems, if you have used MP3 then convert to Wav
Sometimes at 99% the program may “not respond”, it may recover given time, or are you saying it actually crashes with an error message?
Regarding nesting
Make sure your individual projects have not been nested.
Try inserting each project to the library, un-nested projects should add, nested projects will give an error.

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
hi
I have rendered the original files and they all play perfectly.I have made a much shorter project to see if that make any difference but the resulting file plays noticably jerky! like its skipping frames.
What do you mean by nesting and how would I know if they're nested?
I split the audio and replace it with audio from another clip so the ambient background audio is acceptable (no wind noise etc)

Re: Importing multiple projects to the timeline
Did you use the rendered files (that play perfectly by themselves) in your shortened project?
To what format did you render the original files? To what format are you rendering the shortened project?

Hi,
no I used the original files and chose 'same as first video clip' when rendering, I burnt a dvd just to see what that was like and the same juddering occurred on that too. It's a film on butterflies and the juddering is very noticeable when they flap their wings.
