reducing audio recording volume

Post by weathercast0 »

Hello,

is there a way to reduce the audio recording volume? I'm copying VHS to my Computer, but some of these are too loud. You can't hear anything in some parts, because audio is too noisy... I can't seem to find the option to set recording volume to 20% or something else. Anyone can help?

Click on the "soundmixer" icon above the timeline. It looks like a note with a zigzag behind it. A blue bar with a white line will appear where your video was. The white line is the volume, you can click on it and that will create a node which can be moved up (louder) or down (quieter). It takes a bit of practice.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Thank you. But this option is for reducing the volume after it is recorded. The noisy parts appear, because the recording volume is too high (the sound bar underneath the video, which is displayed when you click on the soundmixer, is just a big grey bar throughout the whole film). So decreasing the volume of the mpeg file is no solution. The thing i am doing now is recording the video with videostudio, recording audio with another program (using an adapter for line-in) and synchronizing the sound with video again. Would be easier if there'd be an input volume setting or something...

Try this - depends on what sound card you have.

RIGHT click on the speaker icon in your system tray and from the pop up choose recording devices - when the sound panel opens look for input device - could be called "stereo mix" or "USB" or "line input" - select it and choose 'properties' and a new panel should open with tabs - choose "levels" (or volume) and set the slider down a bit.

my system shows this :-

Hmm... Set level in Stereomix to 20, still too loud (same volume as with level 100).
I guess the problem is more related to my videograbber than to VideoStudio, right?
Is VideoStudio (X6 Pro) capable of recording audio from line-in while recording video from my videograbber?

Yes it will record whatever is on the soundcard - many people do that anyway for instance if capturing using an S-video cable and USB converter the only way to get sound is via the line in socket.
