Hi everyone I'm using proX6 , when editing HD footage either my computer or program seem to struggle with it, yes I have smart proxy enable, and it do help but still when using smartsound quick tracks things slow down and even crash the program sometimes. I'm really considering upgrading my machine from this,
Processor: 3.33 gigahertz Intel Core2 Extreme
Motherboard: NVIDIA NFORCE 780i SLI 2
Cooling: Liquid cooling
Memory: 4gb
Video Card(s):NVIDIA GeForce 8800
Hard Disk(s): 3 WDC WD16 00ADFS-60SLR SCSI Disk Device (160.04 GB)
Case: 002 Blackbird
Power Supply: Topower Powerbird TOP-1100W
to this http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/newfielander/saved/3yj8 The only things I'm keeping from my old system are the case, power supply and the cooling system.
With all that said, do you great people feel that this will really improve my editing experience?
Thanks
Computer upgrade

Re: Computer upgrade
When I upgraded my PC to run VS X6 it certainly was not as expensive as your upgrade. Corel give a minimum specification for running VideoStudio, I copied this and gave it to my dealer who provided a PC with a spec that was better than the Corel minimum. It cost about £600.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Computer upgrade
Yes you should notice a marked improvement.
Be aware though, that some files, particularly new ones when they come out, will not be totally compatible with VS or other editing apps, and you'll still get crashes and fails, but with all things good, you should fly through editing tasks.

Thanks guys for your suggestions, I'm not sure if you guys are Mac men ,but I have heard and read that Mac's do better at editing video. Here's a Mac computer I may be able to afford. Good choice or bad choice?? Thanks again

Re: Computer upgrade
Sorry, not true. A computer is a tool. You use the right tool for the right job, the same with editors. It is the person that does the editing, not the computer. I bet I could show you various video clips and you will not be able to tell me what editor was used for editing it.
On a dollar/performance ratio, a PC will give you more bang for the buck. That is just plain facts. Now, if you want the "hipster" look and be able to sip your latte at Starbucks, then to stay "in", sure, get a Mac. But if you want to edit, there are many more less expensive alternatives out there.
Also, how many editing programs are available for the Apple as compared to the PC? Why is that? In the end, get the most powerful computer you can get with your $$$ if you are editing AVCHD, Canon DSLR .mov, and the soon up and coming 4k (I have thoughts on that already.. you'll need a BEAST of a computer to handle those files). If you are doing ProRes and other "pro" formats, you are not even looking on this board for information. You would need a pro editing software (much $$$) and you buy what they recommend as far as hardware for their software.

Re: Computer upgrade
While you can edit with proxy, the editing won't be as smooth as if you had an i7 4770k running with a decent (not upper midrange either) video card and at least 8gigs of ram to go along with your 64bit (not 32bit) editing computer.
Even though you have 4gigs of ram in your computer now, the max you will see with a 32bit system is about 3.25gigs. Now, toss in the OS and all that other "stuff" that manages to find it's way into your startup sequence, and you are running lower and lower on ram and even cpu usage. Sure, you can spend $1000 for an imac, but you can get a killer PC for that price and not be locked into Apple. BUT, if possible, make that a Win7 64bit if you can. Too many people are experiencing problems with Win8.1 at the moment. And not just with VSP. Other programs are affected by M$ doing this update. Remember Vista? So, maybe by the time you are ready for this new computer, VSP will not have the issues that many others have reported with Win8.
Me? Staying away from Win8 and waiting to see what Win9 will have. And even then, it will have to be worth it for me to upgrade. I don't do it just because it's new. It has to have features that I need and it won't conflict with the software I already have.
