Write XMP Usable By Adobe Camera RAW

Post by garibaldi »

Hello,

I do most of my RAW processing in Aftershot Pro, however for some photos I want to add a layer mask and other tasks that work better in Photoshop. However, if I export to TIFF and then import into Photoshop, I can't go back and tweak white balance or other settings later in Photoshop. Thus, I would like to be able to open the XMP file generated by Aftershot Pro and have Adobe Camera RAW be able to read the adjustments I've made in Aftershot Pro. I see that someone wrote afp2xmp which appears to convert basic tags, but it doesn't have support for Adobe Camera RAW tags.

For example, the ASP tag "bopt:blackPoint" should get converted to "<crs:Shadows>" for Adobe Camera RAW. This way, non-destructive edits made in Aftershot Pro would be transferrable to Adobe Camera RAW. Does such a tool exist already? If not, I'll work on writing an enhancement to afp2xmp to support this functionality.

Thanks!

The underlying engines are completely different, so translating image adjustments is not possible.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. Is there any way for me to edit most of my images in ASP, but then if I decide I want to add some layer masks or other tasks better suited to Photoshop, import them to Photoshop but retain the ability to adjust the RAW file (e.g white balance, etc)? I think Photoshop calls this a Smart Object.

What about converting the RAW+ASP XMP to DNG and then importing the DNG into Photoshop? I know ASP doesn't natively support DNG, but could I use a 3rd party tool to convert it?
