PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
Hey guys, question about X6...when I drag a new image into the program, it automatically resizes to fill the window. If it's a large image, it goes to a smaller view and if it's a small image, it zooms in to fit, going beyond 100% view.
I do NOT want small images to fit the window because I want to see them at their actual size, not 112% or whatever it is. When I first open the image, it fills the window but says it's displaying at 100% (which it's obviously not). Then when I click or edit anything, it adjusts the title to display the proper zoom percentage. I hate having to zoom out on a newly opened image just to see it's actual size.
On a similar note, in older versions of PSP, if I had an image that was zoomed to 60% and then resized it to be 60%, it would resize the image but maintain the window size, adjusting the zoom so that I was now looking at a 100% view. In X6 and even X5, however, it's extremely frustrating because if I resize the same image to 60%, it then adjusts the window to be 60% of the new size (so the image looks smaller and I have to zoom back in to see it at 100%).
I have tried checking and unchecking various options in the view preferences and none of them seem to have any effect whatsoever. Does anyone know how to make the zoom settings work the way they did in the older versions as described above? Thanks!

You can adjust this in File -> General Program Preferences -> View
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
Thanks but as I said, I already tried that. It literally makes no difference what is checked or unchecked in the view preferences; changing the zoom options doesn't seem to affect what the program actually does. I've tried a lot of different combinations of checked/unchecked fields in the view preferences for zooming and there's no change at all to how image zooming is handled.
Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
Followup, I tried once again checking and unchecking all of the view options one by one, and can confirm that regardless of what was checked or not checked, there is NO change to how the images are handled. When I drag a smaller image into PSP, it immediately enlarges to take up the full screen instead of showing it at the proper size. Nothing I do seems to change this and it's driving me completely insane. In X5, I have all of the boxes checked, and it is not doing this. With the same settings in X6, different results. It makes no sense. Is there another place where other zoom preferences might be overriding the main program settings??

Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
I'm using X6 without SP1 Version 16.0.0.113 (caused too many issues for me) and I am not seeing this issue. I normally work in tabbed documents but I tried it both ways. When I open or drag a small image into the workspace it appears at its actual size; not full screen. Here's a screen shot to demonstrate.
Could this be an SP1 issue? Maybe someone with SP1 installed can verify. If this is not an issue that was introduced with SP1, you could try resetting your workspace. That seems to cure a multitude of issues.
First, if you have made any customizations, it's a good idea to save your workspace. Next, close PSP and re-open the program by holding down the shift key while double clicking the desktop icon. It will ask if you want to revert to default and you should answer in the affirmative.

This looks like the problem that came up a while ago: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... it=x6+zoom

Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
I think Forriner is correct.
I have PSP X6 SP1 with the hotfix installed and I'm not seeing this auto-zoom problem. Before the hotfix Corel had broken some of the settings with their SP1 patch. After reporting the issue (with video) to Corel they released a hotfix. Of course it wasn't for autozoom but it that was related then it makes sense.
If you have SP1, make sure, as Forriner said, to follow the instructions carefully on that topic.

Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
Thank you very much. I had come across mentions of the hotfix, but for some reason thought that I didn't have the appropriate version of X6 or SP1...for whatever reason, I thought it didn't apply to me. Duh. Thanks for the rec though; I installed the hotfix and the images are loading at their proper size now.
That said, does anyone know what the correct settings are for the other issue I mentioned? To force the image to stay at the same view after resize? So that if I'm viewing a picture at 80% and then resize to 80%, it's now showing me the picture at 100% instead of making the window smaller and showing me 80% view of the new size.

Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
Have tested your problem on X6 16.0.0.113 on an XP machine, and in X6 16.1.0.48 (Sp1 with hotfix applied) on a Win 7 Home Premium laptop. In both cases in the General Preferences > View , all boxes are ticked.
I took a portrait style image (height > width) and mouse zoomed it to 20% so that the image ocupied about half the height of my working space (Edit mode, Untabbed documents) .
I noted the % scale as 30% and then resized using the Percent value of 30% . On both computers the image remained the same size in the workspace and the scale changed to 100%.
So no problems here.

Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
Well I'm not sure what the problem is. I've got PSP X6 version 16.1.0.48 on Windows 7, with SP1 hotfix applied, all boxes checked in the view preferences (and have tried other combinations as well), and am not getting those results. When I have an image at, say, 80% view, if I resize it to 80%, it shrinks to an 80% view of the new size. In older versions of PSP this was never a problem but with X5 and now X6 it has been an ongoing annoyance.

Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
I'm seeing the same thing as rsn.
One way around it is to have a script replace the resize command. The script will run Resize, then set magnification to 100%. I know it's not a fix, and doesn't explain why we see it and hartpaul doesn't. But if it's that annoying it will at least get you around it until Corel hopefully fixes it.

Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
Frustrating! I'm definitely curious about other people not experiencing that problem with the same program and settings. Not sure what would affect it from one person to another. As a backup option, any idea how to set up that kind of script?

Re: PSP X6 - auto zoom issues
Yes I do...and no I don't.
The script I was thinking of, very easy to make. But it just occurred to me that if you ever upscale, or if you don't scale down to the current zoom percentage then simply zooming to 100% won't work.
If that doesn't bother you, then I can give you the script right now. If it does....then I need to work out the logic for resizing.
