PSP X5 - White Box Saying "OK" on Startup Causes Freezing
Hi, I used PSP X5 for a long time and had no problems. Then I upgraded to X6 but, for a number of reasons, ended up reinstalling and going back to X5 shortly after that. However, ever since I reinstalled it, X5 is driving me nuts with a startup issue. Often, when I open the program, this huge white box that is completely empty except for the word "OK" up in the left corner is present. I can't click on anything to get out of it...I can't even close the program normally. I have to force close it through the task manager and then restart, at which point the white box is gone. But it reappears every time I start up PSP after turning on the computer, or if I haven't opened the program in a few hours.
I've done some searching and can't find any known error like this. Can anyone tell me what might be causing it and how to make it stop? This is driving me crazy! Thanks in advance!

The only thing I can think of is the old Corel reset: press the shift-key while double clicking on the start shortcut. You'll be asked if you want to reset Corel to defaults (or something like that). Click yes.
I hope you saved any changes you made to workspaces, menus etc. because you'll have to reload custom workspace.

Try this:
Close X5.
Re-open X5 and hold the Shift key as you do so.
This will generate a message informing you that PSP is reverting to it's default settings. Click OK.
That should cure it (I hope)

I had the same problem but when I closed the program. I just went to the messages folder and deleted all the messages inside it. For a while no messages til they were refreshed and then the correct ones came back again.
You can find the messages folder at:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\Yourname\Application Data\Corel\Messages
and
Win7 : C:\Program Data\Corel\Messages

Thanks for your help. I thought it would be a messages issue so I tried that first but no luck. It seems to be related to the splash screen. If splash screen is enabled, it looks like it's not happening. If splash screen is disabled, then the stupid white box pops up. However, I've ALWAYS had splash screen disabled and it never used to happen. I really don't want to have to keep the splash screen on just to avoid a white box and frozen program...

FOLLOWUP - It is NOT working after all. I spoke too soon...after another reboot, the OK screen is back, forcing me to force close and reopen at least once a day. This is ridiculous. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it again just in case and there's no change. Can anyone from Corel figure out why this is happening and how to make it stop?? It was never a problem before...it only started happening AFTER I uninstalled X5, installed X6, and then uninstalled X6 and reinstalled X5. It's really driving me crazy.

This is a user to user web board. None of us here are Corel employees. We are users like you who volunteer their time to try to help out other users having problems. Corel employees only very rarely make an appearance here. Can anyone from Corel figure out why this is happening and how to make it stop??

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you didn't re-register PSPX5.
Like I said it's a limb fully acknowledge that I'm probably way off base. I remember after re-installing a program ti would ask me to re-register it. But if I didn't tell it to "never bother me" it would pop up after so long when I started the program.
If that were the case, the registration page is not downloaded it's actually just a web-browser set to the login page. I'm making this very wild and baseless guess because of what I just saw in PSPX6.
In PSPX6 in the upper right-hand corner is a little button representing your membership account login. When I click on it I see this.
Which suggests to me it's something on Corel's side. I could be wrong however, as if I go to Help -> Your Account from inside PSP it opens up a mini browser directly to the login page. So I'm most likely wrong and way off base.

Actually, I think you're completely right. If I click the little "Corel Guide" icon on the upper right corner, the box pops up and I have to force close again. From what I understand, the Corel guide shows up if you haven't registered, so you may be spot on. I can confirm now that the white box I'm getting is the Corel Guide, which is not loading properly, but I don't know how to disable it (unless registering makes it go away).
That said, how exactly do I reregister? I've obviously got my serial number and everything entered but I'm not sure about registration. I don't see any options under the Help menu or anywhere else to do that. There is no "My Account" link or working login prompt

Try going to http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index.jsp?pgid=800792 - On the right side of the page, under "Products" are links for registering.rsn wrote:That said, how exactly do I reregister? I don't want to jinx anything but it looks like that might've fixed it! Thanks!
Re: PSP X5 - White Box Saying "OK" on Startup Causes Freezin
UPDATE: No luck
This is getting ridiculous. I registered PSP X5 and it seemed like it worked at first...I got the usual "offer popup ad" for this or that when I exited the program and the white box didn't appear the next time I opened it after restarting. But now it's doing it again, and the program is already registered with Corel now so I'm not sure what else to do.
Is there not a way to disable this Corel Guide thing? Because it's obviously trying to show me an ad or a company related notice, login page, something...and not loading properly.

There's very likely something about registering from inside the program that needs to take place for PSP to stop asking you. Probably confirmation from the website that returns directly to the program. But since the stupid page isn't loading for whatever reason. But you'd expect more people would be having this issue if the page itself wasn't working. I'll post a question on the CorelYourWay forums to find out for sure.

Re: PSP X5 - White Box Saying "OK" on Startup Causes Freezin
Well, the bad news is, I have no idea what's wrong and Corel support hasn't been very helpful. I actually noticed that these empty popup windows were flashing just before the program started, which indicates to me that Corel Guide or some sort of message was trying to load but simply failing. So for whatever reason, it seems the Corel Guide and/or message center on my X5 is completely busted and I have no idea how to fix it.
That said, the good news is, I've just gone back to X6 instead. I had reinstalled X5 strictly because X6 64bit can't handle Nik Efex Pro 3, which I use constantly, but apparently I'm a dummy because you can use Nik Efex with the 32 bit version of X6 and they give you the option to install both. So I just did that and am now using X6 instead. Still think the whole Corel Guide X5 issuse is bizarre though.
