Shall I be able to open X2 files in X6 without too much trouble?

And welcome to the forums
Yes you should be able to open older version project files in newer versions.
Download the trial version and give it a go.
You can also save a project as backward compatible but for only 2 versions.
I would suggest you make a copy of the VSP to open in X6, that way you retain the version for X2
