DISC TEMPLATE MANAGER

Post by snowstorm »

Good afternoon all
I am using VS Prox6 Ultimate
I wish to burn the following video file to either AVCHD or Blu Ray disc

The file is approx. 25min long
and it is for approx 3.37 gb (prior menu)
Video type=H.264
24 bits;1920x1080;16:9
59.94 fps
variable bit rate =26490kbps
Dolby Digital Audio
48000 hz ;192kbps

I tried creating the template under Disc Template Manager without success
I also couldn't find any preset template with 59.94 fps nor was I able to edit any provided templates to reflect the 59.94 fps
Any suggestion please

The problem is that the international standard for both AVCHD hybrid discs and full Blu-Ray ones only allows true progressive bitrates (i.e. 59.94 fps NTSC or 50 fps PAL) if the format is 1280 x 720p. In other words, if you want to retain the 1920 x 1080 frame size, you have to accept that the video will be interlaced and thus be 29.97 fps or 59.94 i instead of p... You could always experiment with converting your video to 1280 x 720p. The quality should still be very good, and that is also the format which used to be the standard for HD TV broadcasts -- and still is in some parts of the world.

But if you want to keep your original frame size, I would go for a Blu-Ray disc for the additional reason that AVCHD discs will only use a maximum bitrate of 18 Mbps. Thus if you produced one of those with your current video, you would take a double hit, in frame rate AND bitrate. The quality would still be very good, but not as good as your original.

Is there any specific reason(s) why you are wanting to burn to disc e.g. distribution to friends or family? If not, you could always keep the edited video as is as it will play on many modern HDTVs directly from a USB stick or external hard drive plugged directly into the TV, or else into any stand-alone Blu-Ray player (including the Sony PlayStation 3 or 4) plugged into the HDTV via HDMI cable. That's what I do, anyway...

Thank you Ken for your quick reply.

Obviously I will go with Blu Ray disc
A)
Please note that I have two choices in the Blu Ray Standard templates either MPEG-2 and H.264 my concern being to keep the highest possible quality
The MPEG-2 can give a higher video data rate ,I believe 35000;and H.264 with a maximum of 20000
Since the original video file has a fairly high data rate should I go with MPEG-2....
B)
I still would like to know If it is possible to create a disc template with the 1280x720p properties

C)
Yes Ken I have been using USB sticks for about one year now, since both of my hdtv and BluRay player can read them, and yes much prefer this type of media
and more recently using my inhouse WI-FI to see my video clips/files directly from my pc to my HDTV

Thanks again

Since the original video file has a fairly high data rate should I go with MPEG-2....
That's what I would go for. Just be aware, though, that the mpeg-2 files -- which use a different compression algorithm -- will be larger than AVCHD. Thus you will be able to fit less on the disc. This normally does not worry me as most of my projects rarely exceed 30 minutes.
I still would like to know If it is possible to create a disc template with the 1280x720p properties
Yes. When you open Make Movie Template Manager choose MPEG Transport Stream as the format. Give the template a name (e.g. 720P). In the next Dialogue box, on the General tab choose the 50/59.94 fps option and set the frame size to 1280 x 720. On the Compression tab make sure H.264 shows as the format.

Thanks again Ron for your quick reply

Please note that the template I would like to 'create' is under Disc Template Manager' not Make Movie Templates Manager

This setting/option is under Share;Create Disc;Disc ;Settings and options;Disc Template Manager

Thanks again

Ah... sorry. I don't think it is possible to create a disc template for that format in Disc Template Manager. Personally, I have never had to try that, though I have just looked and can't see how it might be possible. Hopefully, someone else might be able to help there...

But I would still have thought that if you produced that format in the Editing module using Make Movie Template Manager as suggested above, and you inserted the resulting video in the burning module, then it should burn as is to disc since that format is Blu-Ray compatible. (You would of course need to ensure that 'Do Not Convert Compliant MPEG Files' is ticked in the Options cogwheel icon in the burning module.)
